How to use the space under this wall cabinet?

This unit is attached to the wall in my new house and I'm wondering what to do with the space underneath. Those cube-y Ikea storage boxes might be an interim solution (if they fit!) but I'm wondering if there's maybe a more exciting and stylish alternative. Or maybe just we should leave the space open.

What would you do?

Leave it open. I think anything else would look messy.

Leave it open. If you need more storage here get a unit that sits on the floor. Shoving shit under it will look messy

Thanks both, I think I've been so caught up in arranging better storage solutions than we have in our current place I've lost sight of the bigger picture. I definitely needed to hear that will be fine to leave it as is Grin

Definitely leave it open. This is the stylist alternative.
Now throw away half of what you own.
(Struggling to do this myself, but it’s my plan before i move!)

I'd leave it. There's hardly any space anyway.

What is that buy the door? Light switches?

PixieDust28 · 16/06/2021 17:31

I meant by not buy.

Decluttering is a major work in progress altiara. I'm determined to move in with only what we need or that is beautiful (to chop up a lovely William Morris quote) Good luck with your move!

Yes, Pixie, they are light switches for the lights the previous owners installed in the garden, as well as a second set for the room itself. I've never had garden lights before, it feels very fancy Grin

Leave it open op. More visible floor space makes the room look bigger. Enjoy your garden lights Smile

To me, the thing on the wall would look happier if there was something standing on the floor underneath it. Whatever was under it should stand steady on the floor and should be pretty well exactly the same length as the unit on the wall, and not any thinner.
