Colour to go with oak kitchen

Hello
We have just bought a house with real oak shaker style cupboards. Worktops are a pale grey speckled finish. There is natural black slate floor.

What colour would you paint the walls?
We've tried about 10 different sage greens, but non seem to look right, so now we're stuck for other ideas

Thanks

Do you definitely want to keep the oak? I think I’d paint them. But if you like them I’m not sure much will work in the walls. Perhaps just white?

@Chattychattylanglang I would love to paint them, but my husband doesn't want to, so we are at a bit of a stale mate with it all.

I would’ve gone sage green too. What about a brighter/deeper colour (more colour) so it doesn’t get washed out.

Can you post a picture?

I'd probably go for a neutral, something like ivory lace by dulux.
Then I'd add splashes of a colour with accessories & a plant on the window ledge.
We struggled to get a colour to go with oak cabinets in our previous house & did the neutral walls.

I think I'd go for a neutral but bright paint to try to lighten it up. No matter which sage green you choose it will likely suck the light out of the room. Maybe one of the brighter grey toned whites from F&B like Wevet or Make sure that it is lit really brightly and put a few plants on the windowsill. I think that could go nicely with your grey worktop and black flooring.

Who am I kidding? I wouldn't do that! I'd wait until my husband was asleep/out buying a pint of milk, and I'd have all the oak doors ripped off and thrown in the front garden ready for the skip :) By the time he got back I'd already have ordered replacement kitchen doors.

Maybe replacement doors is an option your husband would consider rather than painting the existing ones?

We had an oak kitchen in our last house and painted the walls F&B Vert de Terre. I really liked it. The other shades I considered were Mizzle and Cromarty and with the benefit of hindsight, I think either of these would have been a better choice.

Dark blue. Will complement the wood and the pale grey worktop. Don’t fart about with neutrals, make a statement .
I love sage green with oak but not with grey.
