As per the title, am looking for some inspiration! When we moved in, our south-facing kitchen had recently been redone, so we haven’t needed to do anything to it. However the colours are feeling a bit bland and I’ve got a hankering for something brighter on the back wall. We’ve got a dark slate floor and dark grey high gloss cabinets underneath the white island top.

I’ve had a play with the Dulux visualiser and did think a strong bluey green, like F&B Vardo, could work, but I’m now second guessing myself.

That part of the kitchen gets a lot of light, but it can be dark if it’s overcast. For that reason I don’t want too dark a colour as I think that will close the room down too much.

Not wedded to any brand; usually use Little Greene. Tia!

Anybody bored enough to have an opinion on this? Grin

It’s a lovely kitchen OP! Are those built in cupboards on the back wall? Could you paint them the darker colour instead of the wall? It might make it more of a feature.

oneglassandpuzzled · 05/06/2021 17:30

I agree with perhaps painting the kitchen doors something more vibrant. But I really like it as is.

SkankingMopoke · 05/06/2021 18:12

The wall with the pin board? Little Greene Purple Heart would look good, especially if you paint the rest of chairs yellow and the frame of the pin board (and any pictures) white.

Disclaimer: I have a rather marmite taste for strong colours 😬

AlmostSummer21 · 05/06/2021 18:17

Personally I'd just freshen up the paint if it needs it. New table cloth, paint the chairs (remove the notice board & white board) but I live neutrals like you already have.

InteriorDesignerrr · 05/06/2021 19:02

Interesting, you’ve all taken the same view as my decorator 🤣 he was very dubious about introducing a stronger colour.

Thanks @MistakenHoliday! They are indeed built in and I did toy with painting them a vibrant fuchsia until I saw DH’s face at the suggestion…

@SkankingMopoke you’re talking my (paint) language! I love a strong colour, I’m just worried it will close in the kitchen in too much.

@AlmostSummer21 I veer between agreeing with you and then wondering if it’s too boring? Would you go for a cream or white if you were to freshen it up? I’m also wondering if an eggshell would help - atm it’s matt and flat.

Thanks so much for all the input, this is exactly what I need!

You could paper it if you want to brighten it up without losing light. Something like this would be good

Oops, forgot the attachments. Here you go...

@InteriorDesignerrr. I'd go for white. Matt & flat. What's on there now? I do like some of the dark colours, I think they can look dramatic & gorgeous - but day to day I prefer the lightness of white. I'd like the inbuilt cupboards in lime or fushia, though....

InteriorDesignerrr · 23/06/2021 19:27

Thanks all for your input - thought you might like to see end result! I took your advice @MistakenHoliday and @oneglassandpuzzled and did the cupboards instead. @SkankingMopoke hope you approve of the boldness of the colour…
And @AlmostSummer21 I went with your suggestion and put Wimborne White on the walls (in Johnstone’s durable) - I think the off white works well with the light in the room.

Thanks everyone again, I’m really pleased with it!
