Sofas to fit up narrow stairs with a corner

I hate my stairs. I have wanted a Loaf sofa forever, but the online calculator they have to see if their sofas will fit is indicating that NONE of their sofas will get up my stairs! The biggest sofa we have at the moment is 180(W)x90(D)x65(H) and obviously that got up the stairs, but now very nervous about ordering anything bigger! It seems to be the depth that is the biggest issue - to try and pivot it around the bloody annoying corner.

I've looked at Snug, but am disappointed with their range of fabrics and also slightly freaked out by multiple, slightly strange threads on here about them.

We want quite a large corner sofa! Any ideas?

I got my large tiddafors sofa from IKEA. It's basically a flat pack sofa. Helped me get it in my small flat back then. Look at flat pack sofas.

CrazyCatsAndKittens · 29/05/2021 12:10

Has anyone aid "pivot, PIVOT" yet?

We have a flat pack IKEA sofa too. It was easy to deliver.

Monkeytennis97 · 29/05/2021 12:24

Was just about to add 'PIVOT!'

littlepeas · 29/05/2021 12:32

Ha! Yes - it would totally be a PIVOT situation!

Have a look at snug sofas. They've designed them with small hallways in mind.

I quite like the designs too.

WoMandalorian · 29/05/2021 12:39

We have an Ikea Friheten that came in parts. Very comfy and we also had to get it up a flight of stairs to the flat.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 29/05/2021 12:50

A posh furniture store near us will measure your hallways, etc, to check they can get the sofa in. If they then can’t, it’s their responsibility.

I'm in the USA but modular sectional couches are what people use here to get round this issue.

Basically the sofas come in chunks and are clipped together in the apartment.

I'm so disappointed I didn't get to say 'PIVOT' first!!

Have you ordered the fabric samples from Snug though? We preferred the fabric feel over everywhere else we have had samples from. ( By miles).

Agree with the limited colour choice but we have decided to work around that, as their instagram community photos show you can always get a block colour sofa and then add to it with throws and cushions.

Fedupofmagic · 29/05/2021 20:40

We got our (huge) corner sofa from nabru. Basically it comes as a flat pack and you slot it together like a jigsaw.

Have had it 3 years now and it still looks like new and is really comfortable

We have a tiny hall and a very sharp angle into the living room, couldn't fit most normal sofas in. The one we've got is bigger than most of then and much more comfortable.

choirmumoftwo · 30/05/2021 00:05

We also have a Nabru corner sofa and we love it, though it was quite tricky to assemble.
It was the only way we could get exactly the size we wanted. It came on a truck on a pallet - really clever design.

Yes, I got all the samples. I actually wanted navy, but neither of them are quite right - the one for the cloud sundae is too blue and the one for the rebel is too dark (fussy!). I was half tempted to take a risk with the pink, as I assumed I would be able to send it back if I hated it, but I have since read that it is very difficult to return to them, despite the 30 day return period. We live nowhere near a showroom either, so we'd be ordering it without even sitting on the thing!

Off to check out Nabru!

We had to throw a sofa out of an upstairs window when we moved here as it wouldn't go down the stairs.
Just saying.

littlepeas · 30/05/2021 06:24

Has anyone got a Scott sofa from Made? This seems to come in 3 bits and has similar dimensions to my current sofa, which we know can get up the stairs!

It looks quite nice and has good reviews, but doesn't really have the slouchy look I was after.

This is a very good point but no plans to move, so once it's in it can stay there Grin.

Speaking of windows - we are about to change ours, so I did wonder whether we could line it all up to deliver the sofa through the window - but that seems like an impossible task.

We had our lounge window removed to get sofas in but that's on the ground floor. Removal companies move sofas in and out if upstairs windows all the time so I would definitely schedule delivery for the same time the windows are being replaced.

fearfulfran · 31/05/2021 07:54

Just came here for the PIVOT!

JaffacakeJanine · 01/06/2021 16:27

I'm considering a swyft sofa, quite a similar design to the Scott Made one:

swyfthome.com/collections/model-02/products/model-02-velvet-3-seater-sofa-teal

I tried it in a shop, definitely not as slouchy as a loaf sofa but good support & pretty comfy for me. A good middle ground between firm and soft. The material is really plush and soft to the touch too.

JaffacakeJanine · 01/06/2021 16:30

I read a couple reviews on the Scott sofa which stated they come in massive boxes, so if you go for it I would prepare yourself for that! The lead times also put me off the Scott, I don't think I could deal with waiting 18-20 weeks and it not fitting!

I also tried the Scott sofas in the made store. I would say they are softer/slouchier than the Swyft ones and I personally preferred them comfort wise.

Iamsodonewith2020 · 02/06/2021 14:57

Sofa.com do their Bluebell sofa in a version that can be dismantled if it doesn’t fit then put back together in room of your choice.

littlepeas · 04/06/2021 16:10

Just updating here to say we took a risk and ordered the Scott! It came in less than a week (one we wanted was ready to despatch). Three huge boxes that arrived earlier than expected and when I was on a work call but it fit up the stairs! YES! It’s gorgeous - very pleased. I now have a lot of cardboard and 2 old sofas to dispose of.

I will be able to get my loaf fix when the extension were building is finished - although it will have to be a lot smaller than the one I had my eye on for upstairs!

Thanks for your help everyone.
