Moving house soon.... is it necessary to put white paint as a base 1st if changing psint colours. Seems like a lot of work or can you just slap on the paint?

I'm assuming you are talking wall paint.

If you're going lighter or a very opposite colour I would do a base coat. Simply because a white base coat will be cheaper than three or four coats of colour paint.

By just covering one colour with another you risk the old colour shining through making it look patchy or not the colour your actually want.

But if you're going darker it should usually be okay without a base coat.

I do a base coat of white, mainly because quite a few rooms in my house have two walls one dark colour and two a different dark colour and I want it to come out even

Dark walls you’ll need a white base coat to cover, unless your putting on an equally dark colour, light colours then you should be good to go straight on with your primary colour, fresh plaster water down your paint at least 10 parts water to 1 part paint, the plaster will absorb the water
