Lengthening curtains with more fabric

I have two identical pairs of curtains, and I would love to be able to create one set of curtains to fit one window from the fabric. I need around an extra 10cm in length, though.

Does creating a panel at the bottom of one pair with some fabric from the other pair sound ridiculous? How obvious would the seam be? I'd be getting a professional to do the job.

They were expensive, and I like to make use of them.

Pic attached of fabric.

Thank you.

I would suggest adding a panel in silver grey so it looks intentional

Or you could make a feature of the join with a band of another fabric or wide ribbon sewn on top. I did that once when I let down some curtains and there was a mark from that. Depends what sort of look you are going for really.

Have you considered lowering your curtain pole? 10 cm really isn't much. Is there a hem you could let down? They're often quite generous.... Or could you lose a bit of width and hang them the other way round? Or even hang them the other way and add more width with the other pair. Horizontal seams aren't so visible. I can't tell by the pattern. Could it be any way round?

This is what I did....lowered the pole

For only 10cm, I'd add a contrast "hem" as others suggest

Thanks all.

No scope for lowering the curtain pole and no give in the hem.

Asked someone who has done some upholstery etc for me in the past and they suggested adding the extra 10cm below the heading tape.

I think I'll have to give it up as a bad job.

If there is no fabric at hem level, I would remove the heading tape and add a pattern matched panel at the top. Reapply heading tape. The immediate gathers break up the line of the seam and it is not obvious. Mucheasier on a patterned fabric.
Do NOT add silver panels.

Right, this makes complete sense. Great idea. I do want to avoid a contrasting panel of any kind really.

Thank you.

Hi,

I came up with a solution, extending from the top and creating a 'pelmet' with pom pom thread.

The person I use for soft furnishings said it would work.

Along the lines of this
