Worn Floor

Just wondered if anyone had any experience of staining or varnishing a solid oak floor. It's been laid for about 14 years in a high traffic area and it looks really worn. I was thinking of staining/varnishing it, but I've never done it before. So, if anyone had any advice on what stain/varnish to buy, I'd be grateful.

Thanks Dexy, did you hire a sander to do the sanding? I've been trying to do the really worn bits with a hand sander and it hasn't made much difference.

Hi we hired a sander as we started off with the hand sander like you nightmare it was worth every penny to hire one did the job with much less mess than the hand sander and then as I said used Osmo raw which is very good much better than the varnish that we've used previously hope this helpsx

Thanks Dexy, I'll see if I can hire one locally. Your floor looks lovely btw. Thanks for the great advice.

Dexy, could I ask one more question about your floors. Were your floors badly worn in places before you sanded them?, and did the sander get them back to a good state. It's just I was a bit sceptical about ordering the raw oil incase mine still looked bad after sanding them.
