French Doors or Sliding Patio Doors?

Currently white sliding patio doors. Need replacing. I was all for French doors, but really like the Anthracite sliding doors. I've gone off white completely. As usual the ones I like are more expensive. DH was all for the white sliding ones but now likes the white French doors, with the glass panels either side - which I'm really not keen on. Which ones do you have or have had and prefer?

We're having our extension re-done and are going to face the same dilemma. I think it really depends on the style of your house. The aluminium sliding doors are much more modern, the white French doors more old fashioned.

The French ones need fixing back somehow and take up space outside, sometimes they smash in the wind. Sliding ones take up no space and are not affected by the wind.

Just a couple of arguments in favour of sliding doors.

I love my white French doors but the pp above is right about them needing fixing back, getting caught in the wind and taking up space outside. For me it’s worth it because I love the look.

harryandmarv, both door models are great. But should should make a decision based on your personal needs and sizes of your patio, and of course such things like your kids' or pets activities and how often would they open and close them, and how easy would it be for them, you know. When I've been looking for doors for my patio, I've analyzed some articles, including this one ( here: httрs://houseaffection.com/things-to-consider-before-buying-a-sliding-glass-patio-doors/ ), where author explains a lot of basic, but really essential things about sliding glass patio doors, like that you have to pay attention to durable aluminum screen of those and useful hardware, that would be installed with them.

People with pets usually have to go for sliding doors as they can be left open unattended for cats/dogs to go in or out as necessary even if cold or blustery. With French doors obviously they have to be fixed back and open up much further - we just leave our sliding doors open a few inches for the cat.

I changed from sliding doors to french doors, really regretted it. Have to have them wide open and pinned back. Really annoying if it's warm but not warm enough to warrant the door being held back fully.
As soon as I have the cash I'm changing them to sliding doors so that I can control the amount the door is open.

Sliding.
Particularly in this lovely warm weather.
