What decor do you associate with the 00's?

Was talking to my DM about decor today and we were talking about how the house was decorated in the 00's and how it hasn't been touched since then (this is my DM's house). My DM thinks it looks dated, I think whilst it's not what's in fashion ,now it's not awful. All the rooms have all 4 walls painted the same colour, no wallpaper or feature walls to date it. Most of the rooms are quite neutral in colour (sort of biscuity) except my old bedroom which is a mid blue with those daisy curtains that were all the rage.

It got me thinking whether 00's decor was so plain as to be fairly undatable, or was my DM's house just very boring! What were the decor trends of the 00's?

I think biscuit/taupe paints were noughties. Also in were feature walls both wallpaper and paint that was two shades darker than the rest of the room. Not much has changed really except the biscuit taupe has made way for varying shades of grey and silver.

Shabby chic, Cath Kidston florals, light oak, laminate, everything “porridge coloured”, creams and beiges, teal with chocolate brown was v fashionable at one stage.

I think the neutral creamy colours were replaced by greys, but now plenty of people want “warm whites” and “greige”, which are pretty similar to 00’s porridge colours!

ohidoliketobe · 12/05/2021 22:13

I worked at b&q as a student in the mid 00's.
Lots of 'feature wall' wallpaper in beiges/ browns with big floral patterns in lime green, teal or purple springs to mind! Oak laminate flooring and brown leather sofas with cushions and rugs in the feature wall colour.

Bluntness100 · 12/05/2021 22:16

Ooh stencilling, wallpaper borders were in at that time.

MaddieElla · 12/05/2021 22:18

Wallpaper borders

Dado rails with wallpaper on only half the wall then painted above

MaddieElla · 12/05/2021 22:19

Or maybe that was 90s Hmm

4PawsGood · 12/05/2021 22:19

80s and 90s for dados and stencilling surely?

3CCC · 12/05/2021 22:20

Dark plum coloured feature walls

Boho chic so either Cath Kidston florals or like mirrored furniture and beading

Stencilling
Laminate flooring
Black white tessellated bathroom tiles
Spotlight lighting

ArnottsUnderpass · 12/05/2021 22:21

Yeah they were 90s

Noughties for me: beige but mixed with dark brown furnishings. Laminate. "Accent" walls in a contrast colour, with matching cushions etc.

Replaced by grey in the 2010s but the warm terracotta and earthy tones are definitely back!

WillowSummerSloth · 12/05/2021 22:22

I think wallpaper borders were before the 00s. I think feature wall esp. fireplace. Magnolia paint. Oak furniture. Twigs in pots to decorate. And throws. (although maybe more 90s?)

TolkiensFallow · 12/05/2021 22:23

Crappy laminate flooring
A feature wall
Burgundy paint

ArnottsUnderpass · 12/05/2021 22:23

Twigs in pots definitely noughties! Guilty as charged.....

Chihuahuacat · 12/05/2021 22:24

Light wooden floors
Wooden coloured kitchens with black marble worktops
Beige walls
Brown Leather sofas
Twigs in jars
Glass dining tables with metal legs

ArnottsUnderpass · 12/05/2021 22:24

Bathrooms: a strip of mosaic tiles round the top of your white tiles.

Kitchens: black sparkly granite worktops.

Twizbe · 12/05/2021 22:26

@ArnottsUnderpass

Twigs in pots definitely noughties! Guilty as charged.....
Me too, or rather DH is guilty. He got the bloody thing. Only just managed to persuade him to get rid of it.
Alfxn · 12/05/2021 22:30

Kitchens - wood doors and black granite counters, bathrooms - coloured tile (e.g. orange, black, maroon) on the floor and halfway up the wall, then a tile border, then white tiles the rest of the way up. VERY noughties.
Shiny black fake leather sofas.

Bluntness100 · 12/05/2021 22:30

Yes maybe stencilling and borders were mid to late nineties?

I moved in about 2001 and to be honest the walls were all plain neutral colours, the kitchen tiles were multi coloured though and we put laminate in the kitchen,,

EversoDelighted · 12/05/2021 22:31

We bought a house with stencilling and paint effects in 2001 and it was dated then.

Definitely biscuit coloured paint, oak kitchens with black worktops. Coloured leather sofas. Light coloured laminate. Spotlights.

EversoDelighted · 12/05/2021 22:33

Also big yellow or cream fabric sofas

LouLou198 · 12/05/2021 22:36

You are all describing my house Confused

JudgeRindersMinder · 12/05/2021 22:36

Stencilling, wallpaper borders and different pattern above and below were very definitely 1990s as I had them all in my flat in the early 90s

Yubaba · 12/05/2021 22:43

We had beige walls with a chocolate brown feature wall in our living room and a wooden kitchen with a black worktop in the mid 00s.
All the curtains in all the rooms were a biscuit colour and the carpets too.

Josette77 · 12/05/2021 22:44

beige, brown paint, granite counters, dark floors (which I love) brown furniture, quote stencils on walls ex.Live, Light, Love

Luckyelephant1 · 12/05/2021 22:50

Feature wall either painted in shades of plum, maroon or lime, or covered in large floral wallpaper in similar colours. Rest of the walls beige or magnolia.

Satiny fabric cushions to match the feature wall, on dark brown leather sofas. Sofas and armchairs all part of a set rather than current trend of accent chairs in different colours.

Plain shaggy rugs usually in similar shades to the feature wall.

Oak/similar wood nest of 3 tables in the living room. Chunky oak dining table with dark brown/black faux leather placemats.

Square faux leather coasters

Spotlights

Very fake looking laminate floors

Wooden kitchen doors, black worktops with sparkly bits

Not much clutter. Minimal house plants or greenery etc.

Large generic floral canvas prints on the walls.

allycat4 · 12/05/2021 22:52

Duck egg blue. Or was that later?
