What decor do you associate with the 00's?

Was talking to my DM about decor today and we were talking about how the house was decorated in the 00's and how it hasn't been touched since then (this is my DM's house). My DM thinks it looks dated, I think whilst it's not what's in fashion ,now it's not awful. All the rooms have all 4 walls painted the same colour, no wallpaper or feature walls to date it. Most of the rooms are quite neutral in colour (sort of biscuity) except my old bedroom which is a mid blue with those daisy curtains that were all the rage.

It got me thinking whether 00's decor was so plain as to be fairly undatable, or was my DM's house just very boring! What were the decor trends of the 00's?

I'm waiting for the kitchen we did in 2002 to come round again. Walnut cupboard black worktop 🙈

CallingOnAvengingAngels · 12/05/2021 22:54

I came on to say Brown.

Beige, brown, chocolate colours, I decorated my first flat in a sort of taupe on three walls and aubergine on the feature wall. Brown couch, light pine furniture, accessories everything biscuit and taupe.

Cowbells · 12/05/2021 22:54

Leather sofas, massive L-shaped sofas, biscuit or straw coloured walls with plum feature walls.

CallingOnAvengingAngels · 12/05/2021 22:55

Oh yes, I had a black worktop with sparkly bits too! And a square sink and toilet. And beige/brown plates and matching beige/brown mugs on a mug tree. Grin

Oh dear! I still like my twigs in big pots, fills the corner nicely in my hallway, I will just pretend they are vintage rather than horribly dated! I must be stuck in a 90’s time warp as I was watching classic Corrie from the late 90’s and was admiring Fiona the hairdressers twisted hazel....there is no hope for me I’m afraid.

popcorndiva · 12/05/2021 22:59

That poppy wallpaper lots had as a feature wall in their lounge, coupled with the black leather sofa and red cushions

Killerqueen2244 · 12/05/2021 23:02

I remember Crown did a Suede effect paint (in a few brown shades) that was apparently highly coveted!!

Definitely duck egg blue/brown combo

Furniture tended to be massively chunky

And beech effect laminate/kitchen cabinets

EversoDelighted · 12/05/2021 23:06

And those green glass bowl on a wood pedestal bathroom basins. Although I never saw one in an actual house, when we were doing our bathroom in about 2002 the showrooms were full of them.

merryhouse · 12/05/2021 23:10

wooden track and Dr Who posters, mostly... Grin

Woodlandbelle · 12/05/2021 23:13

Yellow or terracotta paint
Large navy sofas
That Mexican pine furniture

I had a home in 2006 and it was off white and quite plain as I couldn't afford much. Buy it had a quite a bit of pine effect.

Tumbled tiles, granite work surfaces, striped stair carpet, sisal stairs (probably a bit 90s) oversized leather couches, Smeg fridges in bright colours, bunting, oversized “natural” portrait canvases from Venture.

TaraR2020 · 12/05/2021 23:19

Granite kitchen worktops

Spotlights

Laminate flooring

The Feature Wall

Media storage (cd/dvd towers and racks)

Faux leather chairs

Roman blinds

Candle votives

Breakfast bars

Coloured beads

For childrens bedrooms, Bang On The Door!

tubbycustardtummyache · 12/05/2021 23:22

Possibly slightly more recent (maybe 10 years ago) but those green plastic leaf ball things that everyone used to have hanging outside their front door.

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/05/2021 23:36

For me it would always be laminate flooring.

I had mine in 00 and got rid as soon as I could afford to. Yes its easier to clean with little ones but fuck me the RACKET when one of the kids dropped a toy, which was millions of times a day!

I loathe laminate with a passion and always dates a house to me!

MoreRainbowsPlease · 12/05/2021 23:36

Gosh you lot all have much better memories than me as I couldn't remember anything myself, but now you've all jogged my memory I can picture various friends front rooms in the 00's.

I think the reason my DM went for the plain biscuit colours with such vigour at the time was because the house we moved from also hadn't been decorated since the early 80's (and actually looked more 70's) and she was so relieved to be away from the frightening patterns and swirls that everything in that house had.

I remember now being envious of friends that had the dark brown leather sofas and laminate flooring in their lounges. DP and I moved into our first flat in 2003, but we had hand me downs from family so never had a modern look. The few bits of furniture we did have to buy were flatpack chipboard from Argos and bent as soon as you put anything on them. Although I do remember treating myself to those wooden rectangular storage canisters that everyone had in their kitchens at the time, even though the bread bin took up nearly all my worktop in my tiny kitchen.

TaraR2020 · 13/05/2021 00:47

TaraR2020 · 13/05/2021 00:47

Bluntness100 · 13/05/2021 07:56

I’d argue granite work tops, Roman blinds and spotlights are classic and not dated 😃

Alfxn · 13/05/2021 08:20

Varnished/unpainted pine everywhere.... floors, skirting boards, doors, architraves window sills. With yellow, orange and peach shades on the wall... and terracotta tiles in the kitchen... all of which we are still slowly reversing in the house we bought a few years ago!
