What decor do you associate with the 00's?

Was talking to my DM about decor today and we were talking about how the house was decorated in the 00's and how it hasn't been touched since then (this is my DM's house). My DM thinks it looks dated, I think whilst it's not what's in fashion ,now it's not awful. All the rooms have all 4 walls painted the same colour, no wallpaper or feature walls to date it. Most of the rooms are quite neutral in colour (sort of biscuity) except my old bedroom which is a mid blue with those daisy curtains that were all the rage.

It got me thinking whether 00's decor was so plain as to be fairly undatable, or was my DM's house just very boring! What were the decor trends of the 00's?

Lol I'll give you Roman blinds, but for some reason I remember them being everywhere...seem to have been replaced by internal "shutters" now!

I agree Roman Blinds are classic.

I still like brown and duck egg more than grey. Or is that because I can't afford to replace my 2009 brown sofa🤣☺️🤣

Dado rails with wallpaper on only half the wall then painted above

I'd say this was really traditional, Victoriam/Edwardian even but I could be wrong.

I'd say minimalist and scandi. LivingEtc and Elle Decoration were full of white houses filled with mid century wooden furniture, leather sofas and chrome fittings. Very little 'stuff'. We bought our first house in 2003, painted over all the 'changing rooms' styled colourful walls with pure brilliant white, pulled up the carpets and polished the floorboards and filled the house with furniture from Habitat, IKEA (remember the chuck out your chintz advert in the late 90s?) and some choice second hand pieces (I got an gorgeous early E Gommes sideboard from ebay for £150, you'd pay 10x the price for it now). Mum was horrified that I had all white sheets and towels. Grey was started to come in because of the scandi influence, we had grey tiles on the floor in our bathroom in 2007 and painted our bedroom Elephant's Breath in 2009 and I went through a stage of thinking about painting pretty much every room a light grey. Still love that look, I follow loads of Swedish and Danish estate agents on instagram and they still decorate in that way.

In the UK now there's a far more luxe look with brushed brass, beautiful wallpaper, dark colours, colourful painted woodwork and ornaments.

We were 'laminated throughout' in the early 00's cream very pale maple colour.
We had cream and terracotta in the living room, lilac dining room, baby blue kitchen with pale maple cupboards.
Lots of chrome and silver accessories, ting ting sheafs and willow balls, pebbles in vases and bowls everywhere, floating candles, floating shelves, bedding with Chinese writing on.
Voile all over the place, I didn't do it but loads had voile curtains then bought extra to wrap around the curtain pole.

By the late 00's we had feature wall paper, brown leather sofa, high gloss kitchen, oak everything!

@Luckyelephant1

Feature wall either painted in shades of plum, maroon or lime, or covered in large floral wallpaper in similar colours. Rest of the walls beige or magnolia.

Satiny fabric cushions to match the feature wall, on dark brown leather sofas. Sofas and armchairs all part of a set rather than current trend of accent chairs in different colours.

Plain shaggy rugs usually in similar shades to the feature wall.

Oak/similar wood nest of 3 tables in the living room. Chunky oak dining table with dark brown/black faux leather placemats.

Square faux leather coasters

Spotlights

Very fake looking laminate floors

Wooden kitchen doors, black worktops with sparkly bits

Not much clutter. Minimal house plants or greenery etc.

Large generic floral canvas prints on the walls.

Bang on!!

@JaninaDuszejko I'll stop you there...please give details/handles etc!! I immediately want to fall down a Scandi estate agent black hole.

I bought my house in 2001. It was floral wallpaper and dado rails with dark carpets with sort of geometric patterns (not like the swirls of the 80s). I did it all cream/biscuit/taupe with cream carpets and shiny, pale, laminate in the hallway. I would have had a brown leather sofa if I could have afforded a new sofa. I remember fur/animal skin cushions and throws and AWFUL “art” on the walls.

@Laquila here you go:

Bjurfors Stockholm, Entrance Makleri, Stadshem, Alvhem, Historiska Hem - think this is my favourite

I’ve a friend who loves this. She’s recently moved and done her house like that again. It’s been the same colour decor and a succession of brown shiny leather couches in every single house in the thirty years I’ve known her. When one shiny brown sofa went done, she has bought another, I guess that’s what personal taste is. Some folks find something they love and stick with it.

I know 00 is 21 years ago but I decorated my house in 2010 and have the oak kitchen black worktop and it still looks good. Not planning on replacing it for another 10 years at least.

Brown Leather sofas - these have been ubiquitous, along with burgundy / red leather. I hate mine (had since 2007) but its practical with the dc.

I dont think post 2000 style looks particularly dated. I do think that they grey fad will be going on for the next 10 years even though it's been "over" for 3.
