What colour walls to go with a grey carpet?

Hi - we've just moved house and have the decorators coming in next week. Our big lounge is East-West facing so the front (dining) part can seem dark in the afternoons but the main lounge area gets the direct sunlight all afternoon and evening.

The walls are currently Dulux Perfectly Taupe which I couldn't stand when we looked around but now the furniture is in, it isn't that bad actually. But we want something lighter and have a grey carpet.

What would be a lighter, still fairly warm colour that would go with the carpet? We aren't big grey fans really but the carpet's fairly new so we won't be replacing it!

(Dulux trade suggestions would be most welcome as that's what the the decorators will be using but any suggestions appreciated )

Dulux rock salt is lovely. It's almost white but a very very pale grey, you can only see the difference when you put white against it
Polished pebble is nice but skews a bit blue on my walls. Goose down is a darker true grey

It depends on the grey but a colour that's too warm probably won't look right

Looking at the paint chart online, I’m also wondering whether Just Walnut could work as it looks like a lighter version of Perfectly Taupe, which could be good for comparison. The danger is something like that is too brown.

We've just painted our walls in polished pebble and it's really lovely and subtle.

What colour is your furniture?

I've got a grey lounge carpet as I couldn't think what other colour would go with my red-purple & grey sofa.

My walls are pale lilac.

Not a great lighting but this is polished pebble. It's almost white in some lights.

We have gray carpets and rooms are painted in natural hessian (cream), natural calico (cream), polished pebble and chic shadow (both grays) we also have a feature wall of mint macaroon in hallway and daughters room, along with feature walls in Laura Ashley pinks which have been matched with polished pebble. X

Thanks all - we went to Homebase but not all the colours suggested here were in stock as testers. I'll wait until DD gets home from school and let her paint all over the walls (in nice little boxes, obviously!).

Grey is a great colour for carpet. We have grey. Hall is a light grey, two spare are a light blue and a warm pink and our room is an antique gold. LOVE it.

Neutral colours. We have grey carpets and a colour called calico from wickes

I have grey carpets and furniture with with Egyptian cotton and white mist. looks great. Warms the room up.
