Paint colour to go with Cashmere kitchen

Looking for collective wisdom, lovely mumsnetters!

I'm about to get a DIY Kitchen delivered - it's the Linwood Cashmere with a quartz marble worktop. Floor is dark wood-look tiles. I've been looking online for colours for the walls. No one seems to be doing contrasting walls so I don't want to either (baa! baa!) but what colour to go for?

I'm looking for an off-white with a hint of taupe, but nothing that will bring out the weird pinkyness of the Cashmere (can you tell it was a compromise?).

Any ideas? The room is west-facing and doesn't get a lot of light so nothing as dark as Skimming Stone. Strong White? Or is that just a dirty white?

I did look at Oval Room Blue when I was thinking about more of a colour but it's too strong (I have it in a different room). It's not a massive room - don't want to overwhelm it!

It's part of a bigger renovation and I'm exhausted with constant decisions, but I need to get it painted before the kitchen arrives!

@colette100 can you suggest something off-white that won't pull towards pink/lilac/mauve?

I think Oval Room Blue is a lovely shout too. But choosing colours from opposite on the colour wheel heightens the attributes of each. Complementary colours are lovers!

QforCucumber · 03/05/2021 17:53

Oh I was literally about to say oval room blue, my kitchen is cashmere and I've just painted it in this colour and I absolutely love it.

It was your photos on the other thread that made me shamelessly copy you inspired me @QforCucumber ! But the DIY Kitchens Cashmere isn't a very strong colour, and I worried that Oval Room Blue would be too much.

What else is complementary to taupe? I'm rubbish with the colour wheel!

Ah that's understandable, ours is less of a pinky cashmere and more an off grey which I think has really helped.

Would dulux pebble shore be too dark of a neutral?
Had we not gone with this it would have been tranquil dawn by dulux

DIY Cashmere appears to be more pink? ( Red Hue Family) than the Howdens Cashmere, which belongs to the Yellow-Red Hue Family.

But photos are a really poor substitute for measuring the colour of a real-life sample.

So it’s not for definite obviously

Yes, it's definitely (definately?) a red-based colour @colette100. I like the look of the Tikkurila and the Benjamin Moore Classic Gray, so I'll try them.

And good shout on the Dulux Tranquil Dawn @QforCucumber - I have a tester for that so I can give it a go tomorrow!

Thanks so much, I'm so overwhelmed with decisions at the moment!

@Wimpling I have a similar coloured cabinets, my walls are LG China blue also used Lambeth walk by Mylands neither as strong as oval room blue a paler blue.

ChequerBoard · 06/05/2021 19:54

We have just installed a DIY kitchens cashmere kitchen in our annexe and are planning on painting the open plan kitchen /dining room it is in with Dulux Heritage Romney Wool.

The tester pots from the Dulux professional range are quite big so we have been able to try it out quite an extensive area and it tones very well. Doesn't have a pinky tone at all which I wanted to avoid.

Hebeee · 06/05/2021 23:53

I know you already ruled out Oval Room Blue, but I just wanted to add that until recently our Handmade Kitchens of Christchurch cabinets were Little Greene Knightsbridge (a darkish cashmere 😉) and our island Oval Room Blue. Imho, the two complemented each other perfectly.

In fact, we liked the Oval Room so much I repainted all the base cabinets in that colour!

Im thinking about a new kitchen. I liked the cashmere but more or less decided on mussel. Now I am tempted by the cashmere but thought it might look too pale.

Wimpling · 07/05/2021 12:42

I really like LG China Blue - it would work well with a beautiful blue-toned roller blind that is the only nice thing that the previous owner left us, but DH isn't keen on blue in a kitchen Sad

I tried a range of greens yesterday - Dulux Tranquil Dawn, F&B Vert de Terre and Johnson's Natural Sage. Weirdly the Johnson's looks the best (it's the cheap stuff from B&M!). It's about the same tone as China Blue - I think either would work well. Crucially, the cashmere doesn't look pink!
