Gorgeous white plates

I need new plates but everything I can find are massive!! I'd like them to fit comfortably in our dishwasher so approx 25cm diameter whereas everything I've looked at is 27+

Tried Denby, John Lewis, Portmeiron - am interested in something which could be pretty long term rather than a cheap set I'll never be able to get replacements for (which is what I've got now)

Any manufacturers / other good retailers I could try?

We have a portmeirion set that I love. We don't tend to use the dinner plates day to day though - we use the "supper" plates which are a bit smaller.

Eternal Beau? Blimey that's a bit of a throwback! That stuff was everywhere in the 80s.

I always buy at least 8 settings, as teenagers break them so quickly!

Try Wayfair and just buy plenty of spares.

@TheCraicDealer also came to say this-made a huge difference when I did this

@FusionChefGeoff

Plates are good on that one from Dunlem but don't like the bowls. Oh God this is going to go on forever!!

I've found a possibility on a very odd site and have ordered a sample of plate, side plate and bowl (buyer pays for returns so not risking a whole set it would cost a bomb!)

They are very cheap compared to what I was looking at so could just buy 12 settings and keep spares.

You know you can get this set from Asda for £18?

Oooh will look into raising the top shelf!!

I think a 'supper' plate is exactly what I need so will try Googling that too.

I love how invested everyone is in my plate dilemma!

@floofycroissant no!!! How did you work that out have you got a link pls?

Ignore me I've found it - well that's good to know if I do like it but I would need bowls (how odd that the set doesn't come with them!) so would be able to order those from the other one.

I've also just looked again at Denby and realised they do a medium plate so that's back on the list.

Iittala Teema 21cm

Have you tried Nisbets? It's commercial but I'm pretty sure you can just buy from them - although I may be wrong! (I always just add to my business order 😬)

FusionChefGeoff · 25/03/2021 07:41

Oh MY GoD just lifted the dishwasher shelf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still leaves me with portion control BUT the use of a plate with a large rim will help towards that so I now have much more choice

Believe it or not, we got some very simple porcelain plates from Wilco!! They were really inexpensive, and they are a lovely thing porcelain, have lasted really well, and are smaller, we also got a complete set so that we have replacements if they break. Money isn't really an issue, we just spend what we want on what we like. So it wasn't about the cost, although they were pretty inexpensive! Just lovely white ones, we tend to use really attractive little bowls and other things but keep the main dining set simple. I was really surprised by the size of plates generally, and the chunkiness!
