Has anyone successfully done this & if so with which brand of paint?

Also can you tell me what you matched it with please?

For example: setting plaster F&B with Dulux.

I'm really finding it hard to decide what to go for 😬😫🙀

We colour match F and B and Johnsons. Been very pleased with the results.

LoveCauliflowerCheese · 23/03/2021 09:03

Ooo @SweepTheHalls what colours have you matched? Do you mind posting pics? 🙏

My DP is a decorator and gets his paint from crown who can match F&B colours

This comes up a lot. "Colour match" with Johnston's etc are not replicating the paint colours from F&B, Little Greene or whoever, they are giving you the closest match to that colour in their own range. You might be fine with this - I've done it myself in the past and been perfectly happy with the outcome - but it won't give you an exact match. If you want Setting Plaster I'm afraid you'll have to fork out for Setting Plaster.

There's a really good website called e-paint which will give you the closest match to your preferred colour. Personally I would always go for the real thing on walls and large areas of woodwork, particularly for stronger shades. I love F&B colours, but I've used a close Dulux colour in the past on exterior woodwork and would use their specialist bathroom paint on walls or ceilings (though F&B eggshell has held up really well on my bathroom cupboards and shower room walls). Also the F&B eggshell on our skirtings and banisters is less robust than the equivalent Little Greene we've used elsewhere, but that's because it's water based when the LG was oil based. Believe the law has changed now and everything has to be water-based, which means it will need touching up more.

Sorry that's a bit rambling! TLDR: yes you can have it matched, but it won't be quite the same.

We colour matched Craig & Rose French Turquoise and Morris Blue. The decorating centre explained that there is always at least 1or more pigments that they can't put in as they are exclusive to the brands but they use a number to make up the paint from the pigments available.

I matched F&L to valspar 800 in matt and you can’t tell the difference. I also colour matched a colour in some wallpaper with dulux paint and it was fairly spot on but not exact.

I get my f and b colour match at Leylands and am yet to get a bad one.
They all get compliments.

LoveCauliflowerCheese · 26/03/2021 10:03

@JackieWeaverFever @Bluntness100 @Comefromaway

What colours did you match???

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 26/03/2021 10:05

It was Johnsons trade we used. French Turquoise & Morris Blue

TableNiner · 26/03/2021 10:11

I matched F&B Babouche with Dulux and Johnstone’s. Johnstone’s was a much better match.

Bluesheep8 · 27/03/2021 12:30

I've matched the following f and b colours:

Skimming Stone
Slipper Satin
Elephants Breath
Dimity

All in Johnstones paint.

goldpendant · 28/03/2021 11:25

Johnstone's matched to F&B

Shadow White
Stone Blue
Wimborne White
All White
Off Black
Pink Ground
Skimming Stone

Al brilliant and the finish is so much better. They do a super flat matte finish which dries like chalk but indestructible too.

LoveCauliflowerCheese · 28/03/2021 21:55

Ooo good to know thanks @goldpendant Grin

Do you know which paint this one is? My decorator said he used Johnstones because it was good but I think it's terrible! Marks just by looking at it wrong... It's the covaplus vinyl matt. I've got another room to do and I want to get something more durable but not sure which is the best out of Johnstones' range?

goldpendant · 28/03/2021 22:39

It's the endura one, super hard wearing.

Lellochip · 29/03/2021 08:50

Thanks @goldpendant

youmakemydreamscometrue · 29/03/2021 21:52

I buy all my paint from decorating centre online and the colour match has been spot on every single time.

I've had F&B downpipe, off black and peignoir along with a custom colour which was again spot on.

WellTidy · 29/03/2021 22:44

I’ve colour matched dulux bleached lichen 2 and 3 emulsion to the high traffic valspar washable emulsion in b&q.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 30/03/2021 08:23

I've had Borrowed Light matched at Johnstone's and am very pleased with it. The room I used it in is my office whilst I'm working from home and it's lovely. A pretty blue without having lilac tones. Looks greyish in some light.

NoLactose · 30/03/2021 20:02

I LOVE borrowed light @IstandwithJackieWeaver 👍

NoLactose · 30/03/2021 20:03

Oooo have heard tell of the decorating centre @youmakemydreamscometrue how long does an order take to arrive?

NoLactose · 30/03/2021 20:04

Also what's better quality?

Valspa
Jonstones
Leyland
Decorating Centre

????

NoLactose · 30/03/2021 20:05

(Sorry about the namechange!)

NoLactose · 30/03/2021 20:09

Do the online decorating centre do colour matched tester pots?
