Advice on hallway colour

Hi everyone, does anyone have any advice on colour etc for a very small narrow hallway.

My front room is De Nimes so maybe I need to steer away from too dark in hallway ???

How about a a darker shade below the rail, and lighter above, maybe from the Little Greene China Blue colour scale? That might sit nicely with the stair carpet, and not be too jarring with the living room.
