Dulux Heritage velvet matt

Has anyone used the new Dulux Heritage range, and specifically the velvet matt base? I know that the Heritage colours have been around for a while, and that you can get them mixed in any of the standard Dulux bases. However, they've now got a base specifically for the Heritage range, which they describe as having a soft, velvety matt finish.

I'd like to get Dulux Heritage Sky Blue for our bedroom, and am not sure whether to go for their velvet matt base or get the same colour mixed in, e.g. Dulux Trade Diamond Matt. It's taken us ages to get round to doing our bedroom, as we prioritises the rest of the house, so I'd like it to be a bit more grown-up and luxurious if possible. On the other hand, I don't want something that will look patchy or will wear really badly!

So... have any of you used the new velvet matt base - and what did you think of it of so?

No-one? Sad

We haven't used it yet but we are considering it, so if you use it reviews would be very helpful :)

Sorry, haven't been on MN for a while, so I missed your reply! I think we'll go for the new velvet matt base, so I'll try to remember to report back on how it was (and whether the decorator hates it as much as he hates F&B Grin). It probably won't be for a couple of months, though, as there's lots of other work to do before we can get to the decorating stage!

Have you got the tester pots yet?

If it was me I'd get them now, put them
On the walks & see what you think over a few weeks.

Personally I think in a large heritage style room it could look good, but in a more 'standard' bedroom it might look a bit littke boy blue

Which wasn't what you asked, but ....

I haven't used the paint, sorry.

Thanks, Witches, I've already tried out testers in 3 of the Dulux Heritage colours, which is how we decided on Sky Blue. I don't know if you've seen any pictures of it but, despite the name, it's not actually a sky blue at all - it's a mid-toned greeny blue with an undertone of grey in it. We were originally considering F&B Dix Blue and it's not unlike that, but more blue and less green/grey.

Just to be clear, I wasn't asking about the colour (although feel free to weigh in about that, too Wink) - I've already tried loads of testers from various companies and have decided on a colour. I was asking whether we should go with the new Dulux Heritage velvet matt base or get the same colour mixed in one of the trade bases.

I’d like to know the answer too - how does it wear etc?!

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 12/04/2021 09:21

@mackerella did you go for the velvet matt in the end? I am considering it but can’t find any info about sheen levels online.

mackerella · 12/04/2021 10:10

I've just ordered it from the local Dulux Decorator Centre but it hasn't arrived yet! I did see that Homemade is selling 2.5l tins with a buy one get one half price offer, but we need 5l so it wasn't any saving for us over buying a 5l tin, especially with postage added. Anyway, I'll report back when it's arrived and I've had a chance to test it!

Homebase, not Homemade! Grin

We starting painting a bedroom in it last weekend. Not quite finished. The paint seems great - thick with nice coverage and finish. But does give off fumes when wet that are as strong as oil based paints. So have lots of windows open!

mackerella · 16/04/2021 07:34

Thanks, @sauvignonblue! What colour did you go for?

That's helpful Sauvignonblue. That rules me out.

sauvignonblue · 16/04/2021 10:16

Romney wool for woodwork and quartz grey for walls. Quartz grey is identical to F&B skimming stone, if you know what that looks like.

I do love the colour range - definitely much quicker to paint with than F&B which we have elsewhere and is quite watery.

I really fell in love with potters pink but just had a look now at the prices...I can't comprehend them! Is this right, coming up around £60 for 2.5L?

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 16/04/2021 16:52

@Somuddled where are you looking? On Dulux Decorators’ Centre it’s £39.60 inc VAT for 2.5L, £64.20 inc VAT for 5L: www.duluxdecoratorcentre.co.uk/dulux-heritage-velvet-matt

@mackerella how is it? I’m just trying to decide now between a Dulux trade or a heritage velvet Matt? Thanks!

Sorry @chanobear, I've only just seen this! We used it throughout our bedroom in the end, and I think it's great! It was done 8 months ago and still looks pristine. It has a nice depth of colour and a soft, matt finish. It's definitely much nicer than the bog-standard Dulux we have elsewhere in the house! I wouldn't use it in any high-traffic areas or anywhere that you'd want to wipe it as I don't know how durable it is, but it's pretty perfect in our bedroom Smile

That’s awesome to hear thanks. It’s just for our bedroom. Just need to decide on colour now!
