I've started something I wish I hadn't. I'm tackling our staircase. Victorian house, three levels, 75 bannister spindles 🤪
I'm using a heat gun and then some eco paint/varnish goop, these two get the layers of stinky paint off (I've got a proper mask and filters). After the layers of paint there's what almost seems to be a stain or creosote, a really nasty purpley mahogany colour. Does anyone have any idea what would shift it? The heat gun just makes it stickier and the paint remover stuff is really messy.
Any tips for renovating staircases welcomed!
