Stair runners

What do you do at the top of the stairs if you have runners? Carpet the same? Sanded wood? Will it look odd at the top? Can you show me pics please I can't visualise it 🤯

I've got the same laminate as I do on my ground floor.

Stair runner is yet to arrive but I'm hoping it will complement it well - it's a gold colour

In my last house I had a runner in the upstairs landing also. I wouldn't have one again, though, as I found they get dusty on the wooden edges much more quickly than the carpet needs vacuuming. In case that's helpful at all.
