Morning. We are unexpectedly having to sell our house and need to replace carpets as the existing ones are green and ancient. I would be so grateful to hear from anyone (property developer mummies?) who can recommend a greige/taupe carpet that is very reasonably priced. Carpet shops all closed so looking to order samples online etc. Many thanks!

I have been looking at getting my home recarpeted and have found that the small independent business much more reasonable both in price and expectations .
A lot deal with end of roll carpets that they by off the 'big boys' like carpet world and are much cheaper .
Two of my local ones will also come out and do all the measuring , and cut the carpet at the shop so when they bring it , it is ready to fit making it quicker and easier for everyone .

All that said , if you are just buying a carpet because you are selling I am not sure I would bother , just give the existing one a really good shampoo as new owners are quite likely to rip up anything that is down anyway .

For a development I’d go for a fairly tightly woven Berber carpet with a reasonable wool content in a natural colour. Very neutral, inoffensive to people with modern and traditional taste and you should be able to get it for £10 or so per sq/m. Look for discounts at the big retailers and local carpet shops.

You could leave the existing underlay down if it's in reasonable condition?
