What colour would you paint my bathroom?

I rent so I have to stay ‘neutral’ (boring). It is quite bright and paint will only be on two walls. It’s currently a kind of brown mushroom. Is Grey too 2020? Would I regret a soft grey? Or a very very pale blue like almost white blue? I have Dark blue accents in there.

Pale blue sounds nice - check with landlords first as technically blue isn't a neutral.

Jade White is a very pale blue. I like polished pebble for a pale bluey grey. Both Dulux.

They will be ok with very pale blue as the colour in there is darker. Kitchen and bathroom are the only rooms that aren’t bloody magnolia Shock let me have a Google of those two colours thanks!

Managed to buy coastal Grey tester pot but it is really, really blue. Not remotely grey. Atmosphere is too blue and blueberry white looks bright lilac and jade white is a bright green shade. The problem is the bathroom is very light as the window is big in there. Need something more muted... any other more grey type colours? Couldn’t get a pot of polished pebble

There seems to be a bit of a grey backlash going on around here, but in my mind you can’t really go wrong with a very pale grey. If you pick a blue grey then it will bring out the other blue accents you mention.

Dulux professional is generally the way to go, bought from the decorator centres - not B&Q.

Timeformyparty · 13/03/2021 14:32

What do you mean grey backlash @jaundicedoutlook? I just meant that grey was everywhere last year and would I regret a grey bathroom....

I’m going to buy some more tester pots. This costal grey looks lovely on the pot but is a bright sky blue. I’m looking for a much lighter grey without it looking dull but struggling

Lots of posters here seem to react violently to the idea of painting walls grey. I think they fear it is the new magnolia.

I hate magnolia. My whole house is magnolia other than bathroom and kitchen. Haven’t bothered to paint the whole house at my own expense but have to do the bathroom due to it having work done on it. I just can’t find a nice grey...

QueenPaw · 13/03/2021 15:03

Thanks @QueenPaw! It is so bright in there (without the light) that maybe I could get away with a darker grey I don’t know? The coastal grey is gorgeous on the pit but literally a different colour on my walls. I will def get a pot of rock salt though as I like the look of that. I lived in a house that had gardenia all over it and it was lovely, like magnolia but with a pink tinge to it, I want that with a grey, it’s grey but a slight blue hue to it?

Definitely try and look for polished pebble then, my kitchen is painted in that! I have goose down in my bedroom which is darker

See that polished pebble looks blue to me, that’s what the costal grey looks like in the bathroom. I think I’ll definitely try goose down as that looks good!

Cloud Burst - it’s a warm pale grey that I’ve used in a couple of houses and people always ask what colour it is. It goes with blues, greys and taupe colours.

Londonmummy66 · 13/03/2021 15:22

The issue with any blue grey is that when you see it on a small square on a paint chart it looks quite grey. However, blue intensifies itself the more of it there is so it will look much bluer in a large square painted from a tester pot and even bluer once a wall or a room has been painted. So you need to look for a grey that doesn't look blue at all on the paint chart but has no yellowy undertones. Then when you put it on the wall you stand a chance of getting a bluey grey rather than a blue.

QueenPaw · 13/03/2021 15:22

Polished pebble is weird. In my kitchen it looks more blue, in my living room it is almost white it's such a pale grey Confused
Seems really dependant on the lighting so definitely one to do a tester of

Timeformyparty · 13/03/2021 17:12

Ok... so what does a grey with a yellow undertone look like? That makes sense @Londonmummy66
