Mirrors up the stairs

We have a small staircase which goes round the corner. It is very dark with no natural light, although dh has put up a bright daylight light to try and cheer things up.

We have had to paint it white as it's got high walls and we couldn't face the acrobatics involved in painting it a different colour to the white ceiling.

We had a selection of boring pictures up and I was wondering if some mirrors might create a nicer space.

Has anyone done this and do you have any tips or ideas?

I can't see how mirrors will brighten it much if there is no natural light to reflect of them.

Could you light the stairs, run a rope light up at stair level or add a lit handrail.

I think the daylight light should provide enough light. We keep it on all day.
