Hi all,

Total blank canvas for our new lounge. We have chosen our sofas first. Still to decide wall and carpet colours.

Open to wallpaper on one wall, but thinking of just painting. What colours would you suggest to go with these sofas?

Appreciate any advice! Thanks

Also, does anyone have these Patterdale Joules sofas from DFS? I’m hesitant to actually buy without sitting on them first....

I love your choices for sofas! Not sure how comfortable, but they look nice

Personally, I would go for navy walls. Dark and moody goes well with the jewel tones you've got already. I'd then do a neutral beige carpet with a large textured rug.

@BarleyMop 1) I would never buy a sofa without sitting on it first - but they do look lovely & 2( I agree with @Moosebreath navy walls , painted would look lovely & navy is quite fashionable at the moment but if it is just emulsion paint - easy to change when and indeed if you ever get bored of it. Possibly more neutral coloured curtains blinds?

But if there is any way you can sit on the sofas or return them if not comfortable that would be my first mission , if it were me.

I also LOVE your sofas (total sofa envy). If you can wait to try them I would, but saying that I saw my sofa in the sale in-store, wasn't allowed to sit on it due to Covid and it is very comfortable.

I would agree with the navy - my sofa is the same blue as that and I have gone for a navy feature wall and white for the other three. But I have broken the white up with a lovely colour block around the fireplace and I have mega patterned floor length curtains on the other wall. My colours are navy, deep teal and some emerald green. There is also a smattering of the same deep yellow as your sofa.

If you fancied a wallpaper could you go for something with a navy base, and then a pattern which brings in the yellow gold. I agree with @MooseBreath - dark is the way to go. I saw this after I had decorated my lounge - www.grahambrown.com/uk/meiying-teal-wallpaper/103522-master.html?gclsrc=aw.ds&&sv_tax1=google&sv_tax2=shopping&sv_tax3=SMART%20Shopping&sv_tax4=103522-master&sv_campaign_id=9338870831&gclid=Cj0KCQiA1pyCBhCtARIsAHaY_5cTzuWWQdk-vkW8b9OFzrsAWtOyLV2yGC45XVzlDa7cHiucuVaoLP8aAozdEALw_wcB

Agree beige carpet would be lovely to lighten it up (I didn't as there can be too much mud around my house and I know someone at some point would just pop into the lounge and there would be mucky footprints). I went for a deeper navy /grey which also works.

Thanks everyone. Interesting that you all say navy walls! I wasn’t sure about navy walls looking strange with the blue sofa. Do you think darker blue than the sofa?

@MooseBreath I like the thought of a rug if we have light carpet, as we have a black Labrador...

@BasiliskStare going to look at what the return options are, if any. I think DFS are made to order, which might be difficult... I wonder if furniture shops will open soon...

@ostrom I like the thought of a coloured wall and three white. Thank you!

Not sure about colours but reference the patterdale... both me and a good friend were considering these. She ordered hers and it’s now been almost 20 weeks and she still doesn’t have them - the original delivery proposals was something like 8-10 weeks but it’s been delay after delay.

I waited as we were moving house and glad I did as her experience put me off! I’ve just ordered very similar (Augusta in Teal velvet) from sofasofa who I’ve used before. I’ve just had a delivery date and end to end it’ll be 5 weeks. Cost comparison is negligible.

Colour wise I’m just having two teal ones but I have dark wood furniture, wood flooring and an old battered rug which is rust and teal tones. I’ll also order some rust/salmon coloured velvet cushions and some teal ones. I’ll take a photo of the sofasofa swatch and one of the cushions in a min...

Very bad room for light but first photo is the cushion, the swatch and the rug. Second photo is cushion and swatch in daylight....

Agatha not Augusta - ignore me!! This is very similar to the patterdale in both navy cloth or velvet, and gold (saffron)

I'd definitely do a darker wall than the sofa! A feature wall could look nice, but I think having all the walls dark would give more of a cosy feel. Rugs are great when you've got a dog that sheds. Ours can be a nightmare!

Clunch or oval room blue, F and B.

I can visualise it like this. Blue walls, light floor covering.
