B&Q Valspar Paint

Is it false economy to choose this over say Dulux/Crown?

Obviously the price difference between F&B or Little Green is vast.

I've used F&B in the past and whilst their colours are lovely I wasn't overly impressed o how it went on the walls ...

its all down to prep

i've used all of those brands and all were good

valspar gives more choice over colour and i love using it

We have Valspar in our kitchen, very happy with it.

nomorespaghetti · 08/03/2021 12:40

We’ve used it in a couple of rooms (kitchen/diner and one bedroom), used Dulux in all the other rooms. Valspar seems totally fine, had no problems at all. Comparable with Dulux I’d say. We used the premium

Everleigh2021 · 08/03/2021 12:41

yeah i've only ever used the v700 (premium)

CottonPyjamas · 08/03/2021 12:43

I won't use it any more. I painted my child's bedroom with it and one evening I was checking on him and he was asleep against the wall. He's a sweaty sleeper and the paint peeled away where he was up against it.

Everleigh2021 · 08/03/2021 12:52

@CottonPyjamas was the wall an old one or a newer build plasterboard type?

Africa2go · 08/03/2021 12:57

Google Valspar reviews. It's awful paint - certainly in respect of dark colours. Avoid at all costs.

It's a newer build but it was also the second time the room had been painted. I believe we used Dulux the first time.

I have valspar v700 all over my house, both regular emulsion and kitchen/bathroom mid-sheen paint, in a range of shades from off-black to pink-white, and I’ve never had a problem with paint quality or colours. It is pretty watery to actually paint with but dries fine. I wanted scrubbable paint and it does work (had previous bad experience with Dulux). I can’t afford farrow & ball so don’t know how it compares 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn't use Valspar if you are going for a dark colour. The last two tins I bought-in matt,.were shiney. I painted some on card to show how shineyit was and took it into the store but they wouldn't refund me

I've recently used their interior wood paint. Goes on beautifully. Chipped really easily.

milinhas · 10/03/2021 14:10

We have the v700 Matt on the wall in 2 rooms in dark colours - very easy to paint with and looks beautiful but does chip / scratch slightly too easily. We have F&B in 1 room and the hallway - Modern Emulsion in the hallway is still beautiful, Estate Emulsion in the room marks as bad or worse than the Valspar.
