Paint colour for master bedroom ideas

Morning all,

I am after paint ideas for my master bedroom. I have one feature wall behind the bed (photo attached) with a duck egg blue bed frame. I will have white sheets and soft grey cushions (see photos). The walls are currently Dulux bright white but thought it would be nice soften this down and add some gentle colour to the walls. The carpet will be a very soft grey when it arrives. Keen to avoid shades of grey on the walls though! And yes it’s unashamedly feminine! Post-divorce and it’s all about me.

A shade of pink from the breasts of the birds?

I would pick out the pale yellow colour from the flowers on the wallpaper. That wallpaper is gorgeous!

My bedroom is duck egg blue walls with gold curtains/accents and a dark grey bed frame, so I think we have similar tastes!

I've spent all morning wondering in and out of the room with the dulux chart. I don't know whether to just go with a warm white (timeless, or almond white). I was looking at Almost Oyster too.

@BeastOfBODMAS - I really like the yellow suggestion but I have a mid-blue furniture (to match the bed) so think the yellow could be too much?

@ostrom I don’t think mid blue and pale yellow is a completely wacky combo!

Depending on the furniture could you change the handles to tie in another colour? I would be using the colours from the wallpaper as a palette for accents.

The almost oyster is very nice for the walls, they have it with a turquoise and a greyish blue on the dulux website so it would definitely work.

Maybe a very pale duck egg, at least 2 shades lighter than the headboard?

How about dusted fondant or heartswood if they match colours in the wallpaper? It’s hard to tell from a photo but if you have deluxe colour charts they might be on there

That wallpaper is gorgeous, @ostrom - where is it from?

I'd go for one of the other colours in the paper (soft pink or yellow, both would work with the teal). Probably the pink for me, if you wanted really girly - but something with quite a lot of yellow in it so that it isn't too sickly, so more of a blush or ballerina pink.

If more colour feels daunting, go for a warm neutral. My favourite is Dulux Chalky Downs 6

@QuantumWeatherButterfly - thank you. It is Dorma Wallpaper (I bought it in Dunelm). I’m really pleased with it! I will have a look at the chalky down 6 now. I think I am going for a warm neutral rather than a colour - have tried a few samples this week since starting the thread and keep going back to a neutral. The rest of my house is quite colourful (teal blues and navy in the lounge, deep aubergine hall) so I think I’m going for an opposite in the bedroom space.

We've got F&B Mizzle in our bedroom which goes brilliantly with teal accessories, and I wonder if it would tie in with colour of the birds tails a little (to ally rather than a match)? It's very very restful.

Mirage is good as changes between pink and lilac and grey depending on light

webit by Farrow and Ball. Would look stunning with that paper.

BarleyMop · 08/03/2021 17:13

Nice wallpaper! I’d choose a paint the same colour as the lightest purple

I just thought I would update this after all your suggestions - I went for Dulux Timeless in the end and it has turned out really nice. It's an East facing bedroom so feels lovely in the morning when the sun hits it and cosy in the evening. I tried a few different samples from yellow, soft purple and the off-whites and with all the other colours I have it I struggled to get one of the other colours to pull everything together. Thanks for all your help ladies!
