Does this look ridiculous?

I am sprucing up my bedroom and due to space issues around the bed I have tried out 2 different bedside tables, with different lamps, does it look silly?

For info, the wallpaper is going this weekend and I have ordered a new bed frame (see pics) in naples velvet. On the left of the bed is a sliding door wardrobe and the rest of the walls are a kind of cream colour.

I have mismatching tables in the spare bedroom but I have painted them the same colour so they don’t look too bad.
It’s your bedroom, you can do want you want Grin

Vetyveriohohoh · 26/02/2021 09:31

Yeah it looks daft, I would go for 2 of the smaller ones. But your room so depends if you’re bothered

Labobo · 26/02/2021 09:33

Not silly but it doesn't look intentional iyswim. It looks like you used what you had to hand. I'd pick a much narrower style for by the window, giving a bit more space between the beside table on the wardrobe side.

@Finfintytint @Vetyveriohohoh

Thanks, you have confirmed to me what I already know - they look crap. I think I will go back to just the one (the white one). Do you think the lamp on the white table looks too big for a bedroom?

Could you have done small wall lights installed? That would give the illusion of more space

randomstuff · 26/02/2021 09:43

@Labobo
That is exactly, what I have done - used what I already had in the house
Blush.

I can't move too far to the window as the radiator is there. I will take the black table out and just stick with the one.

Do you need the storage? If not you could use shelves? I would always try to have some kind of surface at each side

HasaDigaEebowai · 26/02/2021 09:45

Both are too small to look "designed" IMO and the mismatch isn't cohesive enough to look deliberate. If you go onto pinterest or Houzz you'll see that to pull of the mismatched look properly everything else has to be very carefully thought through.

In my opinion you need much larger lamps.

SoupDragon · 26/02/2021 09:46

Yes, small wall lights and a floating shelf would look better. Do you need the storage of the drawers?

Do you think the lamp on the white table looks too big for a bedroom?

As the room is small, I think it is too big, yes.

Woodlandbelle · 26/02/2021 09:46

I wouldn't use those beside tables as one you have the new (lovely) bed the look will be spoiled.

SoupDragon · 26/02/2021 09:47

(I think the lamp is too wide rather than too tall.)

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2021 09:50

Yup looks like you can’t be arsed or can’t afford matching furniture so went with anything you can find. Going with one is better than both. Getting two matching is even better,,,

ShaunaTheSheep · 26/02/2021 09:57

I’d look for a pair of small tables, not drawers, so the floor is visible, to give the illusion of more space. And a pair of tall narrow lamps.

HasaDigaEebowai · 26/02/2021 10:33

We have masses of different lighting sources in our bedroom since DH's vision is not great. Large lamps on the dressing table, spotlights overhead and large lamps on the beside tables. But the lighting that is the most useful is the led snake lights which are attached to the back of the headboard and which can be either bent around to use for reading (particularly good when the other is trying to sleep), or pushed back behind the headboard out of sight. I wouldn't be without these now. They have adjustable dimmers and also a nightlight function which is really handy if you need to get up in the middle of the night. They were also only about £20.

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2021 10:49

I’d probably paint the bedside table in a nice matt chalk paint something that tones with the bed, then give it a coat of clear matt varnish,

Alternatively offer them for free collection on free cycle and local face book, to anyone who wants them, get rid and then look at some sites like Facebook market place and see if you can pick up two matching cabinets cheaply and just give them a coat of paint.

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2021 10:51

Something like this, is only fifty quid,

Or even these for twenty quid. Just pick an area that works for you, I just picked a random one,

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2021 10:52

You can also pick up bedside lamps cheaply

www.facebook.com/marketplace/104091572962169/?hoisted_items=711650646195573

And as said, just offer yours for free collection and if no one wants them then dump.

Do you have a photo of the whole room? Is the wardrobe in the only place it can go? I'm not sure depending on the full room if a wardrobe and 2 bedside tables with no spaces would look a bit cluttered. What colour are you painting the back wall? The bed is a lovely neutral so will go without most things.
Chrispackhamspoodle · 27/02/2021 10:13

Neutral walls
Keep the 1 cream bedside table until you can afford 2 matching (look on argos for modern bargains)
Wall lamps if you can afford it.Other options -ikea do copper clip on lamps which are great.Or amazon do modern bulbs on cables you plug in and hang on a bracket.

CrystalMaisie · 27/02/2021 10:26

I remember seeing your last thread, and the suggestion to turn your wardrobe by 90 degrees, was it possible/ did you try it?

Betsyboopy · 04/03/2021 20:43

You have a some options. Two reading lights on the wall or hanging pendants from above on each side. Instead of a headboard like this get one with a shelf all the way across. If you absolutely want a fabric headboard, get the shelf and then add a headboard in the front, hotel style. Charcoal headboard/shelf would look better with that wallpaper with industrial style lamps or pendants.

Betsyboopy · 04/03/2021 20:44

Oh just saw that you're having it repapered :)
