Looking for some wallpaper/colour suggestions please.

It's an Edwardian house with lots of original features - elegant cornice then picture rail, deep skirtings, galleried staircase and a fireplace and built in cupboard all in dark ish oak. North East facing so you need a light on six months of the year. It's a big space and could take a big, bold pattern. What I don't want is to spend the money and think it looks boring, but I don't want tropical with monkeys, etc. We did have some ideas, but that was before we decided we were going to replace the dark red carpet.

Sounds a fabulous house. Sanderson do some really nice ones as do Clarke & Clarke. I'd be inclined to look at William Morris prints in keeping with the house, if of course you want period. Or Angel Strawbridge.

Thanks Ludo19 - we love it, but it was "eclectically" decorated when we bought it.

I had my heart set on Owlswick by Sanderson but DP would only go with the linen one which I feel doesn't have enough colour. Then I went off the idea of having loads of owls looking at you! It's stunning though. I would quite like something with a Morris & Co feel, but I don't love any of the wallpapers enough to spend that much money. I like this, but DP has vetoed the dark colourway.

It's a big space, but relatively little of the hall downstairs has much wall showing. I have toyed with only papering the full drop wall that goes up the stairs then painting the rest. I've even tried contacting an interior designer whose style I love, but she's never got back to me.

Bumping for the weekend and maybe @colette100 for some colour input? Ta.

Hi - I think I would go all out to choose flooring first - then pivot your wall colour / wall paper choice on the back of that.

You will have far more options more readily available to you, selecting wallpaper to flooring, than the other way around.

Thanks for that - we're likely to go for neutral carpet that doesn't show every speck of dust and dirt so not a solid colour. You have to go through the hall to get to every room apart from the kitchen diner. We have a cat too. I like the herringbone style.

I find Graham & Brown quite good for big and bold wallpapers. They also show you what paint colours go with each paper, which makes the process of finding colours that match a whole lot easier

Thank you Crazzzycat. I will take a look. There's almost too much choice these days.

I ordered a stack of samples from wallpaperdirect and we've decided this is the one. The lighter colour is actually metallic gold which reflects the light and the pattern is arts and crafts. It's a lot nicer in real life than on screen.

I love the wallpapers on the beut site. Some are mainly for feature walls and very expensive - like the Coordonne, but they are bloody beautiful. But for a hallway I do like some of the Borastapeter which are lovely Scandinavian designs and Cole and Son.

There's so much choice and some wallpapers are hugely expensive. I'm happy with our choice. It's reasonably priced which is a good thing as we'll need around 25 rolls!
