Is elephants breath the best colour?

For my hallway, stairs and landing. I love it but will it go with black? I have a black console table and black framed mirror and pictures etc. The woodwork (stairs/doors etc.) are white with oak floor? Will it go? It's a bright airy room. Any other recommendations?

Have what you like. It's not to my taste, but what's important is what you think. Try painting the whole of an A4 sheet of paper with it then put it against the wall in different areas as the light is unlikely to be uniform in hall, stairs and landing. Try it at different times of day and in different weather conditions. If it works everywhere and you like it then go for it.

If by your question you are asking is it still fashionable/is it fashionable enough, then I'm the wrong person to ask!

I have it in my kitchen and it looks good with black and white. It's pretty neutral really.

One thing it does look surprisingly good with is dark teal.

F&B Elephant’s Breath is a mid to light Value greyed colour, from the cusp of the Yellow-Red Hue Family, as it moves into the Yellow Hue Family.

All colours really should be tested in situ (board x 2 coats) - to see how they are likely to behave with the available light, but especially such colours as this.

Reason? Near neutrals are far greater influenced by light quality and context than more colourful colours.

Near neutral colours from this Hue Family neighbourhood are prone to shifting purple/plum in certain imbalanced lighting.

They aren’t purple and don’t have purple ‘undertones’ it’s simply an effect of the available light quality & surroundings. Colour shift doesn’t happen in every situation.

In the back rooms of my home, Elephants’s Breath reads just as you might imagine. But in my dining room it’s positively plum!

It’s so worth sampling on board so that you are able to try them against different walls in both sun and shadow.

I think it’s a great colour! Just check it’s a good fit with your light.

I had elephants breath in my old bedroom and we had a black chandelier and it looked fab with it and the white woodwork. It's a lovely colour.

We have our lounge and dinning room in it. Very classic and elegant colour which so far seems to go with everything. We’ve get to find a colour it clashes with.

Amonite is lovely also though, has a wonderful grey/lavender quality depending on the lighting.

Just about to redecorate our bedroom- will it pair well with a velvet jewel green headboard and copper accessories? Bedroom is south facing and lots of light !! Sorry to hijack post OP ! Smile

We tried it in our dining room - too dark for us. I perceived it as grey, my youngest dc as purple. Great name though.

It’s in my bathroom, it’s a lovely warm grey.
