Painting my fireplace

I want to paint my fireplace surround white. I hate this orangey wood it currently is.
I use my gas fire occasionally during the winter.
What paint is best to do this with?
I don’t want the heat to damage the paint.
TIA

You can use any paint that is suitable for wood. It will not be a problem.

Yes as the poster above says, any decent paint that specifies it’s suitable for wood will do the job. I’ve painted a fair few fire surrounds in my time! My only advice would be to give it a good sand before or the paint won’t adhere properly. The first coat will look a bit rubbish which is normal, don’t be deterred as the second/third coats will make it look much smoother & the effect will be gorgeous I am sure!

A light sand, Undercoat & 2 top coats of oil based eggshell. Use foam rollers for a perfect finish.
