Painting beams white

We have (non original) ceiling beams that we want to paint white. Currently quite dark with a shiny finish. Could anyone please advise what to use. I’m thinking chalk paint?

Personally I would use a really good primer (Zinsser is £££ but effective), then the same emulsion as the rest of your ceiling (assuming you’re not making a feature of them). The finish doesn’t need to be super hard wearing on a ceiling, so I’d not worry about using furniture paint or whatever.

Should add: I’ve used Zinsser followed by emulsion and it’s holding up very well.

Zinsser & then general emulsion here too. Don't use chalk paint, it won't be easy to dust.

Thank you
