New Double Glazing - black or white?

Hello! We're looking at new windows for our three story 1930s house. Currently we have the standard white upvc windows, and many of them are old and in need of replacement.

Do we go black? Possibly with white on the inside to keep the rooms looking light and bright.

We'll be sorting out a new front door too, replacing the existing white upvc door - possibly again with a black door although would a colour be a better idea?

white warps less in sunshine.
also no fading.

We are thinking of doing this too, are there any companies that allow you to upload a photo of your house so you can see how different windows would look?

I really like black window frames on Victorian and Edwardian properties and also new builds but I just can't picture it looking ok on a 1930's. Can't find any online either.

I think the charcoal grey colour looks lovely and classy

It’s now possible to have new windows in any colour you choose. Technology has moved fast in the last 5 years.

People still keep thinking in terms of black and white because that’s what they are used to seeing.

If you post an image of your home exterior, it would be possible to find a colour to harmonise with both roof and render or brick.

Bronze for windows is a particular favourite of mine, it still gives the dark, graphic quality of black without the harsh contrast against lighter renders.

(A bit like charcoal or brown eye-liner instead of black.)

It works well inside too, as it teams with cool colour schemes as well as whites, wood and warm palettes.

Discussion on window colour options by an architectural colour expert.

The reason for saying that white windows often don’t work with everything as one might assume - is that ‘white’ windows still belong to a Hue Family & the colours of white often chosen for them are very low Chroma, near neutral whites, from the Green-Yellow or Green Hue Family neighbourhood.

Such whites from this region can often appear very stark, almost
blue-grey in some lighting, which doesn’t always sit so well with other whites , off-whites, creams for other exterior choices or interior treatments.

Many homeowners don’t get chance to realise this, until they start to select these other elements sit alongside the white windows.
