What colour for chimney breast wall in bedroom?

It is currently orange (was kids room before but we have swapped). Rest of the walls are cream. Chimney breast wall has a Victorian black cast iron fireplace. Got hold of some fabulous brand new navy curtains for £10 from charity shop so am thinking of navy to tie in with them but don’t want to detract from fireplace as it’s such a lovely feature. Rubbish at this kind of thing and pretty skint to boot so welcome any suggestions to free me from the orange!

I think orange is a great colour. Maybe just change the shade of orange. But keep the chimney breast as a vibrant feature. You have a dark fireplace. I think you need a bright colour on the chimney breast, definitely not navy. The walls and curtains are quite bland/neutral. Go bright! orange (sorry I love it!), or maybe a bright warm yellow/gold, or a vibrant fuchsia or if you're very cautious, go with a bright mid/light blue (though personally i think that will make the room feel cold).

This orange is more “primary school orange” rather an earthy Mediterranean tone which is why I’m keen to get rid. Gold is a nice option, I love the fuschia possibility too! I think I need to get some tester pots.
The room is super cosy, just one outside wall, so it wouldn’t necessarily a problem for it to “seem” cooler.

What is the light like? Although presuming the room will mostly be used during the dark anyway I guess doesn’t matter hugely!

Are you wedded to keeping the rest of the walls cream?

How about navy walls everywhere and fuschia chimney breast :-)

If you are on a really tight budget there are paint recycling/reuse schemes all over the place that you might be able to make use of?

What about a nice ochre shade. That matches navy really well. Your room sounds lovely.......the curtains especially, navy is classy

Or salmon pink?

Yes, plan to keep other walls cream for now, We want to have fitted wardrobes eventually so will rethink those walls in the future.
Room is quite light, furniture is a mix of second hand and Ikea. I have all my books in there too. I guess I’m after a more grown up feel to the room.
Loving the colour suggestions!

I'd go a lovely dark bluey grey if it were me
