Neutral paint colour

Redecorating most of our house. Waiting on carpets coming which are a sort of oatmeal shade. Need a neutral paint that will go with those carpets and also the other paint colours I have planned-navy blue, deep green, sage green and dusky pink. Obviously not all the the same room! I like to keep the same neutral colour throughout the house. Any suggestions?

Timeless is a nice neutral colour

You can choose near neutral colours from every Hue Family to tie-in to your fixed finishes, furnishings etc,,,,,

Timeless looks lovely. The every hue family seems to suggest different neutrals for all my colours. Would have preferred just one colour for easy and flow. Might order some testers first.

The majority of near neutrals used in the home come from the Yellow & Green-Yellow Hue Families. See the Colorographies at the Land of Color.

I was also going to say Timeless.

It definitely goes with the blues and greens you mentioned. Haven’t seen it with dusky pink personally but I think it would work with that too.

Timeless is a funny one. Lots of people say it is neutral- I see it as really yellow and creamy.

I really struggled to find a off white paint that was totally neutral in my eyes. Lick White 04 was the one for me, a dark off white which is both slightly grey and dark oatmeal at the same time.

Your eyes don’t deceive you!

EVERY single paint colour available from hiigh street paint companies belongs to an identifiable Hue Family. (Even those some may perceive as neutrals - such as blacks, whites, greys)

In order to be completely, truly neutral, a paint colour would have to have 0=Chroma (colourfulness) and there aren’t any readily available to us.
(Not even in white or black paints)

The creamy yellow you see within Timeless, is because it belongs to the Yellow Hue Family. Some people, in their lighting won’t perceive that from the colour, but others will.

It doesn’t have Yellow ‘undertones’, it’s just an inherent attribute of its colour ‘DNA’.

The lower the Chroma = nearer to a true neutral the paint is.

Hi, OP - you are clearly someone with excellent taste, having chosen pretty much all the same colours as meGrin.

The neutral I use to tie everything together is Dulux Chalky Downs 6. It's more of greige than Timeless, which I also really like and have used in the past. I just wanted something with a bit more depth and character. I really, really like it.

Dulux Egyptian cotton. Perfect neutral, changes colour in different lights.

Colette100 - that’s very interesting. Not just my eyes then!

I’m a real fan of neutrals and hate anything too warm or too cool when it comes to whites. It seems a lot of paint companies struggle to get it right too.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I'll get ordering some samples tonight! @quantumweatherbutterfly I bet your house is gorgeous. I can't wait to get mine done. At the moment it's scuffed paint and wallpaper that badly needs removed!

Can I ask what colour you went for in the end please? Having the same dilemma!

ChatGPT is very good at suggesting these things. Have a go and ask for a few options and really specify what are the lighting situation of most of the house, the paints you want etc etc. It is really good at coming up with a cohesive palette with the shades you just mentioned. You can even set it to use a specific brand to make it easier.
