How reliable are colour mixing paints?

Like Dulux and Valspar - the colours they mix up for you in store as opposed to sell off the shelf ready made. Is the colour really consistent batch to batch?

I've recently had some Valspar paint colour matched to a Farrow & Ball colour. I was really happy with the shade and the paint and they saved it on their computer so they can mix exactly the same shade for me if I need more.

I bought the premium Valspar emulsion and it was brilliant, only needed one coat and did a whole room with only one tin. I'd highly recommend it.

Have you gone back to get a second batch yet to see if they are consistent?
I’m mainly wondering if I need to get all the paint in one go or not, or risk different batches not being consistent.

I’ve had a really good experience with valspar colour match recently - very happy. But they do recommend you buy what you need in one go. Valspar is very durable, I’ve used it for hallway, stairs and landing, and also for Ds’ bedroom.

Another question to ask at different places which offer colour matching - do they match to the nearest colour they have in their range, or custom match to each sample they are given,,,,,Not every place’s idea of ‘colour-matching’ is the same.
