Hillary's blinds, expensive or reasonable?

I'm about to move into a new build and am going to be a bit short on time sorting flooring, curtains, blinds etc. I like the idea of a company like Hillary's coming and measuring and fitting too, but are they hideously expensive? I'm looking at comparing them price wise with somewhere like Next, but probably their ready made.

Also, timescales, how long does it take from order to fitting? And quality?

Very expensive when I got a quote. We used a local place instead.

Cheapest option would be to measure yourself (not hard) get them online (many places) and find an independent person to put them up.

Bluntness100 · 21/01/2021 10:50

I also found them incredibly expensive when I had them quote.

We have just used curtainsmadeforfree and they take eight weeks.

Have you nothing you can take with you? You probably just need bedroom for the first few weeks?

Poppins2016 · 21/01/2021 10:52

Hideously expensive. You're paying for a brand name, not better quality. I'd try to find a local independent company.

Incredibly expensive . We use Newblinds for our fly screens and they are very reasonable and extremely helpful .

We have them- yes very expensive but the fitter puts the price he chooses on the fitting. We were quoted £300 for 3 window blinds (2 average bedroom 1 little side stairs window).
DP called the company direct saying it was too much and they knocked £45 off just like that. (Fitter has said £300 was the absolute cheapest he could do).
On the plus side they look nice but I'm sure cheaper would look just as good!

We had our blinds made to measure by Blinds2Go. We just measured and hung them ourselves. They aren’t cheap either but quality was fantastic.

If you’re not able to hang youtself, then I’d get a few quotes in.

I've recently bought blinds for several windows from Blinds2go, all made to measure but easy to self fit. You can order free fabric samples to be delivered to help choose. Not as cheap as ready made but very good value and straightforward to work out the price yourself online. Each order took about 2 weeks.

Hillary’s and Thomas Sanderson appear to be the same company. My experience of the latter is do not touch them with a barge pole. Not just expensive but zero customer service. I was missold some blinds and it took months and persistence- including data access requests to expose the empty statement they were making to back up their threatening letters - before I got my money back. Look at the negative reviews on Trust Pilot. Plenty of smaller, local firms that will give you a better price and service for an identical product.

Go with someone local or Blind2Go/247 Blinds and a local handyman to fit.

We used a local company who came out and measured every window and kept the details on file. We did each blind as and when we could afford it- also a new build but with MASSIVE windows and every one was £££

Butterymuffin · 21/01/2021 11:20

Noting this down as I need new blinds. Thanks all.

bigmistake1 · 21/01/2021 15:54

Thanks all. Think I'll steer clear of Hillary's. Shame as I really loved some of their fabrics but haven't time to waste having a measure up session and then having to laugh in their face at the price. Can't be doing with all the bartering shit either.
Reminds me of when Safestyle Uk came round and quoted me £4000 for one front door. Oh how I laughed Grin. He wasn't amused when I suggested he knocked £3500 off then we'd have a deal either.

Ten years ago I had hilary's in a new build. They were good. They were able to fit in any type of wall/situation. They have regular offers, which you need to take advantage of.

By contrast our local fabric shop charged a huge amount, and my fitter put them up wonky. I'd go Hilary's again any time.

I’ve used Blinds2go a couple times and like them - they’re easy enough to fit yourself if you’re even a little bit “handy”.

For curtains I find the cost of made to measure just far too scary, and buy ready mades. Easy enough, and way cheaper to reposition curtain pole or hem yourself. I’ve also bought from eBay (made to measure someone else’s windows!).
