Feature wall or paper whole room?

My lounge is about to be re-decorated (COVID permitting). I have my wallpaper and blind fabric sorted, but can’t decide on how best to achieve a nice, polished but not too fussy look.

The room is south facing with a huge bay window, where new roman blinds will hopefully stop the sun from glaring in all day. I think I would prefer to have the whole room papered, but I’m worried it will look too much. Could I ask for opinions please?

If I’m going for paint to match, then I’m thinking The little greene company’s Aquamarine Mid, although hopefully in a cheaper brand - if anyone knows of a good colour match I’d appreciate it!

I’ve saved up for years in order to decorate properly, but I think I’m now paralysed by indecision/fear of spending money on the wrong items

I'd do the whole room. I think that looks more modern and classy.

Also its not such an in your face paper that it would be overpowering. It's a lovey pattern and colour.

Hi, yes it does. The blind has more colours in, but both the blind and wallpaper reflect the colour scheme in a gorgeous print that I’m getting. I can’t wait to get it all done!

I had the same issue recently when choosing what to do with a similarly muted colour. On the face of it the paper looks very busy (and looks busier than in real life in every photo I can find) but because the green is very soft and the pattern is in paler tones on top, the pattern almost disappears when viewed not from very close up, so you just get an impression of the pattern but an overall colour tone on the walls.
I debated feature wall as usually prefer them, but it's very difficult to now find good colour matches in plan or textured papers and I didn't want to paint the walls (not good enough without getting them skimmed) or line and paint.

I'm really happy with it and everyone compliments it. I'd go all over OP as your pattern looks very subtle too.

But I'm not sold on patterned paper and patterned blinds.

I would also do the whole room in that paper but plain blinds. However if your walls are good and can stand being painted then just do the feature wall in that and paint the other three and then if the window blinds are on the opposite wall(s) stick to the patterned ones. If you get a lot of heat in that room as I do in mine then wallpaper all over can cause heat issues such as gaps between joints and peeling. Just a thought.

Oh no, after weeks of indecision I thought I’d finally managed to get a room plan together, but I hear what you say about keeping blinds plain. Can I ask what colour plain?

@DrMadelineMaxwell that paper is lovely My walls would probably need skimming and/or lining if painted so I think paper all round will be the best option

I'd probably go for a white wooden Venetian blind with that paper. The paper is lovely btw, such a nice colour.

Agree with PP that a plain blind would look more polished.

We papered our whole snug. It looked amazing (we've since moved). Definitely keep everything else plain. Ours was quite bold.
I agree about feature walls, very dated now.

I agree with PPs, paper all the walls. But for future reference if you want paint to match wallpaper just take a wallpaper sample to get a colourmatch, we did that in our bathroom. What colour is your woodwork and roof going to be?

If you want a plain blind to reference the print then I'd be tempted to go with a pink or the green blind that tones with the pink or green in the print. Alternatively the pattern in the blind you've chosen will 'argue' with the wallpaper print but an abstract pattern wouldn't, e.g. stripes is probably the safest choice but I'd stick to that bluey green in the paper in that case.

Thanks @JaninaDuszejko this is the other wallpaper I was considering. It’s actually more expensive but to me looks cheaper as it reminds me of those this plain white papers you put up to cover a multitude of sins, which you then paint

The blind and the paper are too similar IMO. You could have a patterned blind but it would need more contrast. A bolder floral print or stripes/checks would work
