Nice wall lighting

We are moving to a house which only has wall lights, no ceiling fixtures at all. I’ve never had wall lights and feel a bit clueless. I’m keen to avoid that ‘Travel Lodge’ feel - more interested in Scandìnavian type designs but on a budget since we need to buy them all at once (I have looked at IKEA but I’m interested in alternatives). Any recommendations?

No idea if lights pointing up/down/out etc are best either, and I’m confused on the difference between a wall light and a sconce. The ceilings are a beautiful feature (high and vaulted/beamed) so it’d be nice if they were lit, but I don’t want the rooms to be dingy.

I like the Anglepoise-style ones but not sure if they only light a small area, and I love the round glass ones with a visible bulb but I wonder if they light is too harsh. I would love something like a vintage French chandelier for the bedroom but that is almost certainly beyond budget Grin

We've just moved to a house with wall lights in the living room and have gone with the Pasadena lights from Next. They've been going in and out of stock but I didn't want anything with a "bare" bulb. Next and John Lewis had quite reasonable selections when I was looking. I think a sconce is just the American term for a wall light but may be mistaken!

We have glass petal style wall lights in each alcove of our living room which match a larger central ceiling light. They are very old fashioned. I bought 2 lamp shades with a brass effect rabbit from Dunelm yesterday. If we didnt have a ceiling light I would buy some lamps and standard floor light as well. I have bought quite a few light fittings from Dunelm and like their quality so far.

Following! I need wall lights but have already bought the main light and can't find anything that goes. Will try JL and next.

Oops i missed the notifications, thanks for the recommendations. I have found some I like at Cox and Cox and graham and Green, just don’t have the budget to get fancy ones for each room at once.

I am expecting we’ll need lots of lamps too but the rooms aren’t big so I don’t want to clutter the space.

I keep reading about the importance of lighting but I can’t find an idiots guide to wall lights which is what I think I need, worried I’ll end up with a dark room and lots of well-lit patches of Wall!
