Which Oven? Overwhelmed by combinations!

Just doing a new kitchen after a 2 year renovation. I can't decide on which cookers/ovens. Range cooker plus combi microwave? Or gas hob with double oven? But how to avoid microwave on counter. Warming drawer - are they useful if you have teens? Any thoughts?

Do get an induction hob. We've got one and it's fab and much more responsive than gas to use and easier to clean.

We also got an electric fan oven, which is so much better than our old freestanding gas cooker. It's wider (gets more trays in), hotter and cooks evenly and quickly.

Both hob and oven were from AEG.

Still have a microwave unfortunately.

No space in my kitchen for a warming drawer but sounds a good idea.

AEG - that's good to know. We used to have an induction hob but it broke twice so having my doubts. Thanks for tips!

I have a double oven range with grill and gas hob, I love it but I'd probably get induction next. I just prefer the look of a gas hob. I have rangemaster.

I have nothing on my work surfaces so my microwave is in the utility room, lol

Have induction hob that I love but love even more my pyrolytic oven. Never have to clean oven again - it burns off the crud at very high temperatures and even tells me when it needs doing.

Roset190 · 16/01/2021 18:29

I love the idea of a pyrolyctic oven. I had someone come and clean our oven and it was good as new. 6 months later and it looks a mess. Life's too short to do anything now.

We have a range master and it is the best thing ever! Could you not put the microwave in a press in the kitchen and have a press door covering it?

Princessbanana · 16/01/2021 18:47

This is what we have, still haven’t gotten round to putting the door on though!😂

Our warming drawer is used to store baking tins. Hardly used it and then it went wrong. Don’t bother.

CarolinaWeeper · 16/01/2021 19:33

I absolutely love my AEG oven and induction hob. Never use the warming drawer, it was a waste of space for us.

Roset190 · 16/01/2021 21:12

Thought a warming drawer would be good for teenagers arriving late for dinner - but they're not going anywhere at the moment...!

I'd love a decent combi oven - are the grills/microwaves any good as that's probably what we'd use it most for.

I second the pyrolyctic oven. It is a life saver. I have a Neff one that has a steam clean setting - once every few uses and then once every 6 months set it to the pyrolytic setting and it burns all the crud and grease away (not that there is much - nothing like a normal oven if you use the steam clean regularly) and wiping it up afterwards is a breeze.

Very satisfying and don’t have to use nasty oven cleaners or get the guy in that takes it apart and soaks it in a tank of cleaner. Ovenu was the company I used to use. Don’t even know if they are still around.

We have two standard ovens stacked in a tall unit. One at the right height for short me and one at the right height for tall DH. They are Neff hide & slide which makes getting things in and out easier.

Induction hob - we had gas before and I was nervous about the switch but would never go back.

Microwave is inside a larder cupboard (hide & slide door so we can leave it open when the microwave is running). This is a bit of a pain tbh but looks better than having it out

Graffitiqueen · 17/01/2021 11:04

We have an aeg steam oven, combi built in microwave that matches the oven and a warming drawer.

Thought we'd never use the warming drawer. it was just to fill a gap, but we use it all the time for warming plates and keeping food warm.

The combi microwave is ok, taking a bit of getting used to as it's so powerful and doesn't have a turntable so get hot spots.

Induction hob is great and really easy to keep clean.

soundofsilence1 · 17/01/2021 11:05

We have a neff microwave combi oven which we also use as a warming drawer (it has a warming setting), a seperate neff oven and an induction hob. I much prefer this combination to our old gas range which was a pain to clean. It is great having the ovens at eye level.

Roset190 · 17/01/2021 12:05

It's good to know that the combi oven has a warming setting (useful!) though may get warming drawer as the combi oven will be getting a lot of use if it's the grill as well.

I'm now thinking Neff is the way forwards but I'm wary of the ovens that as so complicated in their settings that you'd need to refer to manual all the time.

We stayed in a flat which had a new Neff oven and it took us two days to learn how to turn it on!

Neff pyrolitic ovens are the dog’s bollocks. Make sure your builders have installed the proper beefed up electric circuit though.

FunnyItWorkedLastTime · 17/01/2021 12:08

Two days to learn the settings on an oven is a PITA in a holiday cottage but it’s a drop in the ocean for an oven you’re going to have for 5 years.

That said, DH still isn’t completely au fair with ours after 3 years - he’s a hob cook, and a Luddite.

soundofsilence1 · 17/01/2021 12:09

We were put off the neff warming drawer as the reviews were terrible.

They all seem to break in 2 years. Getting an extra oven with warming drawer function seemed a much better use of money.

JoeWicksSurvivor · 19/01/2021 17:40

Warming drawers fail once warranty has finished - agree with @soundofsilence1 ours failed exactly as those reviews you linked to. Ours was Siemens and cost to repair was ridiculous. Id never have another one.
