Hi I have just got new grey sofas and curtains are quite new and I think I need some new cushions to pull it all together. Question is what ones and how many? Ideally I would like to spend as little as possible Grin please don't suggest a rug as I can't bear them tucking up and moving on the carpet all the time Confused

something colourful

helloanyonewhoknowsme · 07/01/2021 11:08

Yes mustard ? Patterned or plain?

Plus I think I need to move the picture above the sofa so it centre with the sofa rather than the wall ?

The ochre from your curtains and/or the burnt orange in the painting.

An odd number per sofa. I like symmetry so would have a large and smaller square cushion at either end and a rectangular one in the centre.

If you have a sewing machine making your own cushion covers is not difficult.

Mustard or gold to tie in with your curtains. And since there's pattern on the curtains I'd go with plain cushions (though you could get different textures) Definitely re-centre that picture on the wall! And do get a rug, you can get sticky things for under (can't recall the name) to stop rugs from moving about.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 07/01/2021 11:15

Your curtains are patterned so I'd be cautious about getting cushions that weren't plain. Maybe look at something textured?

Sup1979 · 07/01/2021 11:17

You urgently need an injection of colour OP!

As others have said

autumn colours
plain but textured
different sizes
odd number per sofa

I already had these in my basket on Dunelm, but wasn't sure it was a bright enough

I've just got rid of a big beige / burnt orange colour textured rug even with the backing it moved and was so heavy to straighten

Just wanted to say I've got those curtains in my dining room - I love them! I would personally go for red cushions.

rolliy · 07/01/2021 11:22

brighter for me

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 07/01/2021 11:27

This time of year I have a throw (well, truthfully it's a ginormous scarf/shawl thing I'm not going to wear) that's lying on one arm of our sofa. It's in a contrasting colour and just adds a splash of brightness. Practical too for snuggling up late at night.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 07/01/2021 11:45

Something less plain?

@rosegoldwatcher I LOVE the bee, do you think just one and others in different textures or one bee per sofa. I've never been this indecisive before !

@Whatsnewpussyhat my DD would have the poms poms off in two seconds, but I like the knit texture

I’d go for a combination of ochre and teal/blue cushions. If you just go for one colour, the overall effect might still be a little bland. It’s also worth thinking about the texture of the cushions, as very flat looking fabrics can create quite a dull looking effect too.

I have these cushions, which have an interesting texture (without being too over the top)

John Lewis also do some rib knit cushions that might be worth looking at.

Try wilkos
The orchre velour and the orchre fake fur for colour and texture

Add in a chunky knit throw www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-ochre-chunky-knit-throw-130-x-170cm/p/0488614

And the room wouldn’t be so bland
