What order to do things?

We have just bought a 1960s semi with a through lounge and dividing doors. I love the house but the decor is very dated.

I basically want to change everything decor wise, but nothing structurally. The house is in good condition but is not to my taste - think beige carpet, anaglypta wallpaper and orangey wood. We are going to clean the carpets but leave them - they are boring but in good muck. Before I start, does anyone have advice on my order?

Plan for living rooms:
Decide on colours
Order sofas
Get fitted shelving
Replace doors (get crittal style dividing doors and new living room doors)
Get new light fittings installed
Get decorator to paint/wallpaper
Sofas arrive
Get carpets cleaned
Put up new curtains

Hopeful bumping for the evening crowd!

I'd clean the carpets before the sofas arrive, but apart from that it all looks in a good order. Not worth decorating before installing new doors etc.

I would....

clean carpets
then
put up curtains
have sofa delivered

New light fittings and check heating first.
