Curtains from thinner material that sit nicely, but not voiles or sheer

I have narrow windows, and thicker ‘sturdier’ materials don’t look nice. I would like some curtains that are a more relaxed material, so that when they are tied back they look ‘floaty’ and soft, but also keep light out and are thicker than voiles.

I’m not sure what type or material I should be looking for, I mainly come across heavy thermal curtains or really sheer voiles. There must be something in between? When I’ve bought some online in the past that looked nice on the photo, they were too stiff looking when tied back. Or if I just leave them open without tying, they ‘push’ back because the material is too thick (hope that makes sense?!)

I don’t want to waste anymore time and money ordering some that won’t be right!

If there is room, can you have curtains poles which are a lot longer than the window width, then the curtains can be pulled back away from the glass.

Unlinen linen. If it’s pure linen it will crease so if you want to avoid that (I quite like it) then choose a “linen mix” like a linen/viscose mix.

Unlined not unlinen!
