Coffee table or side tables?

I am moving house and looking at decor for the living room. I can't decide if to go for a coffee table or side tables. What do people think?

I'd for for both if you've got the space.

It depends what you want to do in that room. Our coffee table migrated to be a side table when we had DD and we wanted the floor space for playing. It stayed there, which means I've room for Pilates etc.
We have a nest of tables to pull out for drinks when required.

We’ve got a coffee table on wheels, highly recommend as you can just move it to where you need!

Surely they’re about function, not looks?!

I've got a couple of coffee tables, but if I started again I'd go for side tables.

I actually want to go for looks as well as practicality. I am thinking maybe side tables as they pretty much function as a main table right?

We have side tables either side of the sofa

Then a coffee table between the two arm chairs

Nothing worse than having a coffee and no where to hand to put it. The coffee table is useful for box of tissues

I've got both because I have a long sitting room and not everyone can reach the coffee table so I have a table and 3-4 little side tables around the sofas.

I like a main coffee table as well as side tables. We use the coffee table a lot for playing casual board games when family and friends visit. It’s cosier than using dining table sometimes.

Will your child use coffee table for playing or drawing at or just dining?
