This is the kitchen in the house I'm buying. Any suggestions on how I can update it? I just can't decide if the tiles would be ok with more neutral units or they definitely need to go

I find those tiles too "bathroomy". I think it's the colour. I would definitely get rid of them.

You could try painting them a more neutral colour, and seeing if that helps, before ripping them out.

Paint the units, they'll look great. Then just replace the tiles.

You might be able to re-tile on top of the tiles. We did this in the bathroom with good results. I'd also paint the kitchen units too.

I think the tiles have to go, sorry OP. You really don't need them along that right hand wall in the second pic either, you can just have that painted. A more modern tile would help loads with the look of the room.

As others have said you can repaint the units easily enough. You could also look at taking out the wall cupboards at the end where the cooker is, putting in a slightly bigger hood if you like, and replacing the wall units with open shelves. They look a bit cramped as they are. The shelves will make it look more contemporary and less cupboard-heavy.

If its update on a budget, paint look up tile transfers you may need to paint them first. And paint press doors. B&Q do an all purpose paint.
