Small understairs shower and toilet room. Would these mirrors work?

I have traced out where they would go but it is a bit hard to see in the picture

If you have kids brushing teeth in there, wouldn’t it be useful to have a mirror at a level they can see?

Sorry not really what you asked!

ComeonMoira · 08/12/2020 15:17

I think do, yes 👍

1sttimeonhere · 08/12/2020 15:18

@minipie

Very good question! I am a bit worried about how they would be secured to the wall to have them at kid level

I would have preferred a more appropriate bathroom mirror but the space is small and the window is awkward. Most mirrors seem to be 40x 60cm which would look terrible

If you're worried about hanging the mirrors, there are various fittings you could use; some here for example.

1sttimeonhere · 08/12/2020 15:28

@Knittedfairies that is a very helpful link.

I agree a rounded shape may work better than another rectangle that doesn’t match the window.

What about something like this? You ca find them under “oval” or “pill shaped” mirrors

1sttimeonhere · 08/12/2020 19:35

@minipie I do like that I didn't find anything as good myself, all really expensive but yours is an ok price.

I did a cardboard cut out of it, the window ledge (if that is what it is called when it is inside!) is bit disruptive, if it wasn't there you would put it close to the window and centre it. What do people think? Vs the one I already own.... blue Peter cut out again

Obviously there is 3 of my mirrors, I just couldn't be bothered cutting the third one out.

OP posts:
GreyishDays · 08/12/2020 19:41

I think three would look good!

GreyishDays · 08/12/2020 19:41

But the one you already own would be good too, size-wise. What’s it like?

ScalpHelp · 08/12/2020 19:42

I don’t like it tbh, I think I would just hunt for a mirror that can fit. IKEA is a good option

ScalpHelp · 08/12/2020 19:42

Sorry I meant a normal mirror

Here it is 25 x 25

Oh sorry, I misunderstood. Thought you owned the rectangular one. I get it now.

1sttimeonhere · 08/12/2020 20:00

@ScalpHelp ok fair enough, I was here for honest so feedback so I am glad you gave it. I tried IKEA and looked at their range but discounted, mostly on size, some were cupboards which there isn't space for. Their website is a dream to navigate so I would have loved it if it worked out.

OP posts:
ScalpHelp · 08/12/2020 20:32

It’s just the circle vs rectangular combination that doesn’t work for me, it doesn’t seem cohesive.

Have you had a look at these? You could buy a few and create your own custom sized mirror essentially. Inexpensive too.

I seen them in person and I kind of felt they were thin.

These are the tiles I have, which I thought would grate in such harsh lines. I definitely wanted something soft

The IKEA lots mirrors are really popular on home decor Instagram accounts. Here’s a couple of ideas. Search #ikealots

Ah sorry didn’t see your post!

In that case, use the 3x round mirrors but change the positioning. Would look better being centred in the space, so move them lower down and further away from the window

user1936863452 · 08/12/2020 20:41

I think the rectangular one would like fine in the space if you didn't try to line it up with the window at all, but positioned it so it was symmetrical / centred within the white space of the wall and asymmetrical with the window. Or even completely asymmetrical.

To my eye, the reason it doesn't work is because you're trying to line it up with a (differently sized) window and ignoring how well aligned it is on the wall space. That's what jars for me - that you're ignoring the balance with the rest of the wall/room - not the window size/shape/position.

If you go with multiple small mirrors, I still think the same point stands. Asymmetrical. It doesn't work when you try and line them up with the window instead of the wall space.

I reckon it could look really good if you embraced the asymmetry. Smile

user1936863452 · 08/12/2020 20:44

Is that a Christmas tree soap dispenser?!

1sttimeonhere · 08/12/2020 20:46

@ScalpHelp

You are right, it would look better if I centred it. I can only move the top one because the lower one and the outline are so DH a and I can see each other but moving the other one below and adjusting the other one will work much better, thanks

@user1936863452

Easy question first, it is a 🎄 dispenser! I think it is cute.

I hear what you are saying about putting a bit more thought in lining up the circle ones, we do need to make sure we can see ourselves, so it is going to be hard to have too much flexibility apart from the very top one.

Re the oval, it is an under stairs toilet so you start hiring the slope very quickly ( you can see it just in frame) so you can't really centralise it on the white wall, if you want to see yourself and the sink and not on the toilet.
