Please help me choose between pointing and strong white for walls! What’s your favourite and why?

Which direction does your room face? What colour is the flooring? What else is in the room?

Dujle · 05/12/2020 22:25

South facing (although back of room is dark - north facing garden) and medium oak parquet flooring. Light grey sofas...a couple of bits of oak furniture.

We have pointing through our main living space and halls. It sounds perfect. I thought white was white was white - until I realised it really isn’t! It’s light but not brash. We’re south facing in v light rooms.

We have pointing through all the hall and stair areas. It is a lovely warm subtle colour.
I find strong white too, well, strong. But it can work, depends on the space

Pointing is a very warm white, Strong White appears more grey.

With the best will in the world it's really hard to say which will look better in your room without being in it. In theory I'd say the grey tone in Strong White would suit a south-facing room better. We have Little Greene French Grey Light in our S facing but still dingy kitchen and it looks lovely. The yellow tone in Pointing might be too much.

Forgive me if you've already done this, but painting samples of both colours onto the reverse of A4 sized bits of wallpaper (2 coats minimum) and pinning them in different parts of the room to see how they work at different times of the day is a good way to compare them.

Pointing is actually the more colourful of the two (more Chroma) and also lighter (higher Value).

You may find that extra bit of Chroma helps cut through the gloom at the back of the room.

Wow! Thanks for the responses. Some people say pointing is a bit yellow...don’t see that so far...
