Painter/decorator worth it?

Please tell me what the going rate is? And is it really worth it in your experience, for the money?

Definitely worth it. I hate decorating. It’s not just the painting, it’s the sanding and cleaning and prep, and neat edges and moving furniture and cleaning up after. It’s waiting in between the coats etc

Pay someone else to do it and a room will be fully painted and back to normal in a day.

You want recommendations, photos of previous work and a few quotes to compare.

Work out the tools you need, the mess, the time extra it takes you to do a job and that your free time is worth more, the fights over not getting help, the arguments over who minds the children.
Or someone comes in does a day's work , you pay them and it's done.

For painting exterior render or the hall/stairs/landing I would say yes. The rest I can do myself.

I’ve got a whole new build house to paint, so every wall in every room is white emulsion.

I can’t wait to start painting the rooms, and I’ll be doing them all myself.
Wallpapering, however, is a different story altogether. I’ll be paying someone to do that!

Over the past few years we've paid to have the outside, hall, stairs and landing painted as well as bigger bedrooms and living. Rooms we use less and smaller rooms I've done myself. Its expensive but doing it myself is knackering and time consuming. The professionally done rooms look great, but so do most bits of my work.

London and around £180 a day for a good decorator, you could get it on the cheap for £100.

I'm furloughed so I've just done my HSL (massive period house) and two bedrooms. It's taken me a month of hard graft, it was a week before I even picked up a paintbrush. I'm exhausted and have hands like a navvy.

Are decorators worth it? Hell yes, if you're time poor and cash rich get a decorator in.

Just adding to this. Been quoted £700 for emulsioning a small sitting room including woodwork. Supplies some of the paint but not the main wall, colour. I’m in North. Seems steep to me.

We’ve done half the house ourselves, and paid for a painter to do half.

For a study, large kitchen/diner, small utility, large hall, stairs and landing, we paid £600 a couple of months ago. No woodwork needed though as it’s a new build. We supplied the paint.
