When to buy Christmas tree

Should I buy a real Christmas tree today or next weekend? Will it last if I buy it today?

(I was looking at getting a Nordmann Fir.)

Thanks.

Nordmann Firs last for ages, even when you leave them in the back garden with no pot or water for a few weeks/months into the new year Grin

Although I bought our 6ft tree last year about 5 days before Christmas for a fiver, bargain.

I have this dilemma OP. My local garden centre has Nordmanns, but they cut all of them now and sell out by about Dec 5th. After weeks in the garden, with the water freezing to ice in the bucket, they are miserable, have lost almost all that fresh cut pine smell, and are starting to look shrivelled.
A forestry place ten miles away will do “pick your own” fresh cut trees up to Dec 23rd, but I panic that if I wait til too close to Christmas they will have run out and I will have no tree at all!

Don't panic!

Try more local shops. Our local cycle shop does them every year (obviously!). Also one of the local scout groups. We used to own a village shop and we sold them. We had a good relationship with the supplier and could order more as and when we needed them right up to Christmas Eve.

Thanks for the replies. We've decided to leave it until next weekend, but put up all the other Christmas decorations round the house yesterday!

StCharlotte - I’m guessing you live somewhere with lots of local shops and potential tree suppliers?
I live in a village in rural Scotland with one shop (no trees), and one garden centre two villages away! Hence the pressure to buy early from the only source within ten miles, versus gambling on the forest further away still having available trees later in the month!
