Dark paint in North facing office

Hi
So we have an attic space that we're having windows added to atm, for a home office. The 2 large windows are north facing along with 2 large ones over the stairwell.

Would a dark paint colour (thinking hague blue, downpipe or colourtrend profound) on the end walls and along the sides be too much in a North facing room? The ceiling will be brilliant white.

You might be also to imagine from the in progress picture! Thanks!

Here's profound that I have a tester for: www.colourtrend.ie/product/profound/

That’s a lovely colour, but I think you will find the space feels larger if you choose one colour to sweep up over the walls and onto the ceiling.

Doing so blurs the angles, beams, edges which allows your eye to roam with nothing to limit movement. Graphic lines and high contrast edges will chop-up the space visually.

Hmm that's a good point! I definitely wouldnt go dark then! Any other ideas?

If you're going to go dark I'd go green rather than blue. Blue in a north facing room will look very cold whereas a green is warmer.

I really dislike dark loft rooms, as lofts suggest sky to me (I've had a few of them!)
However, each to their own.

Would you consider a dark colour on on the doors and skirting, and a piece of furniture/lamps, rather than the walls? Also, dark in some rooms especially north ones, might include some mid shades, I would think.

Hi - I think these are beautiful. A friend has Borrowed Light in a North facing front and it’s beautiful . I always bob in to view it at different times of day. It becomes more silvered in the evening.

Thanks all for your insights. Appreciate it.

I'm going for an indulgent, luxurious feel so that's why I thought dark would be the way to go, particularly as the ceiling will still be white. Good call on the darker woodwork/door but I'm hoping to blend the door away (just goes to a storage room) rather than highlight it!

I really do like the dark Colourtrend colour you chose. I would just use it everywhere to envelop the space!

I think it could feel claustrophobic rather than luxurious and indulgent in a dark colour because of the slope of the ceiling. You can make it feel sumptuous with luxurious textures for soft furnishings and carpet and choosing the right accessories. It would be different if it were a bedroom rather than an office.

We have a recently painted Downpipe feature wall in a west facing home office (the wall where our desk and PCs are). I wanted to do all four walls but I’m so glad we didn’t, especially now we’re in the winter months it is soooo dark.

What about just using it on the two end walls, and leaving the sides and ceiling in bright white?

Good point about possibly feeling claustrophobic!

Colette I'm not sure I'd cover the whole space, def not that brave! 😅
