What paint colour for dark staircase

We're about to have our staircase and landings decorated, and I'm thinking about paint colours.

We live in a new build terraced townhouse, tall but narrow, and the staircase runs up the middle. It has no windows, so very little natural light - just what filters in from the rooms either side.

I was planning on just using the pale greige neutral I have elsewhere in the house (Dulux Chalky Downs 6) on the walls, with all the woodwork being white, and I might still go for this. But - well, it's a bit boring, isn't it?

Because the house is modern and quite boxy, I've used colour elsewhere to add a bit more character, and it's been very successful. But the other rooms are all nice and bright, which I think makes it a lot easier.

I'm not afraid of colour, bright is fine, but I don't want to to go dark - I'd like it to feel more spacious.

Any suggestions?

Pelt? (F and B)

Ah, that is gorgeous Mumisnotmyonlyname - sadly we already have a very similar colour in our bedroom, and DH only confessed he doesn't like purple after it went up, so I don't think I would be able to swing it.

You got me thinking though - I wonder whether a pink would work? I like F&B Middleton Pink, Pink Ground and Cinder Rose (though I always get F&B colours matched at DuluxSmile

We had a deepish dusky pink in a hall and it was lovely. Ours was more like Crimson Red (F&B).
We have greige in a gloomy study and it’s really grim.

I have Pink Ground in two rooms of my house. One is south facing, the other north and it’s beautiful in both. I reckon it’d make a good hallway colour too, as it feels warm and inviting 🥰

I love the look of Cinder Rose too, but as someone who claims not to be much of a pink person I don’t think I can paint any more rooms pink. It’s tempting though 😂 Middleton Pink looked a bit too sugary sweet to me when I tried a tester, probably because it’s more of a true pink than Pink Ground which has got quite a lot of yellow in it.

Right! I've ordered some testers - let's see if I can persuade DH on the idea of pinkSmile

Please to report that Pink Ground is now on the back wall of my staircase, and it looks fantastic! Makes me smile every time I see it.

Now to pacify my 5yo DD, who wanted 'a much pinker pink, Mummy!!!'
