Help me find a non-hideous office chair!

My DH needs a new office chair as current dining chair he is using while WFH is hurting his back. Obviously comfort is a priority BUT it’s going in our living room and I really don’t want a giant black pleather monstrosity in the corner all the time. I’ve looked but really struggled to find something that is

  • high backed
  • adjustable
  • not black plastic/pleather

It doesn’t need to swivel (i would much prefer it didn’t!) and I’m open to all colours though our living room has dark wood floors and navy/grey/white if trying to fit with that.

Cost wise, maybe max £200?

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Following for similar reasons.

Not helpful, I know, but sorrynotsorry Grin

Also following! There are quite a few tan leather/pleather ones around which I find easier on the eye than black. But, a lot of them are not fully adjustable, they go up and down but there’s no tilt. Apparently tilt is crucial Hmm

DH has something like this at the moment but it’s ancient and falling apart, and he says it’s not comfy enough as it doesn’t have padding.

He’s not fussy, is he Grin

minipie · 16/11/2020 13:52

OP if your DH doesn’t insist on padding you could look at this?

I've been using one of the kids old Tripp Trapp chairs since WFH at the dining table. It is the perfect height and very comfortable plus just tucks under the table at the end of the day.

There are no good looking office chairs!

Something like this? There’s a few on that website

Zitouna · 16/11/2020 13:55

Yes @minipie I have also been told that tilt is important! That one looks nice - but would also not be high backed enough for DH I think.

Something nice must exist! Unless this is a massive gap in the market?

Lastly there’s also quite a few velvet ones around - see eg Made.com, John Lewis and Rare Epoch

minipie · 16/11/2020 13:58

ah cross posted, none of the velvet ones I’ve seen are especially high backed sorry...

Zitouna · 16/11/2020 14:05

Oh tho the kallevig one might work @minipie thanks! I will make the suggestion...

I have just bought the jarvfjallet chair from IKEA. Very comfy, tilts, high backed etc. Sorry I couldn’t provide link. I think Which? magazine also recommended it. It was £175.

Zitouna · 16/11/2020 16:54

Thanks @MrsFriskers have shown this one to DH and he’s keen - think I can live with the beige version... thanks v much!

Glad to help. It looks slender/dainty (which neither my husband or I are), and doesn’t dominate the tiddly box room. The beige is actually a paleish grey seat pad, and pale cream elsewhere - I have this version.

I got mine from Sklum and I love it. Work paid for it but I think it was around £100
